The show HIMYM is much better than the book. I am a fan of the Barney Stensen character, but this book is just poor.
I don't think it made me laugh once and that is all the book is meant to do.
I wanted to like the book, that is why I bought it. Unfortunately it just doesn't work. Save your money. Trust me. Most people don't go back to rave about bad books in the comments. Take my word, that is why there weren't many comments when I bought the book.
Why three words audible? One word, I can do. Two words is easy. Three is impossible for me.
Other sleeping books or books about raising your kids in other countries.
Good french and english.
I think this is the best book for how to make sure you baby sleeps through the night. This book talks about the "pause", which I think is smart, normal, and maybe obvious. Other sleeping baby books have crazy regiments that can be unhealthy for the baby. My son is 2 months old and sleeps close to 5 hours every night now. Then he wakes up and eats and sleeps for another 3 to 4 hours. I think in another month he will be sleeping a full 8.
Yes, because I think he makes valid points about male leadership, schools, BPA, video games, and more.
Unlike most child rearing books. This is unique compared to other books I have read.
He branches out to explain how BPAs affect girls too, which is good to know.
People that lived under a rock since 1980 might enjoy this book.
Performance is fine.
This book is done. Past its time.
If you know that someone in India can do your job because it is digital, you know 90% of this book.
Comic relief parenting
This book is HILARIOUS! Are people not seeing it? Honestly, the humor of how her kids rebel and her desire to train a dumb dog to have a purpose are awesome! I know so many Chinese people like this and you will laugh so hard if you can just picture the reality of it all. Plus I like to learn what lessons she used to teach her kids. If you don't laugh during this book you are missing the humor in Chinese life.
Great reader. Nails the punch line every time. "Happy b-day Mommy with love" said Loulou... "I don't want your card, I want a better one. I have a special box where I keep good cards and this one can't go in there!"
Laugh. You will laugh!
Totally worth your time. I learned one or two things, nothing super insightful. The reason you want this book is to laugh at two little girls fighting with their mom.
I would recommend, because I like the raise your kid with empathy and allow emotions. Identify emotions and raise kids authoritatively. Many of the suggestions are good, but the book is boring when it references MRI scans and brains lighting up. No one cares.
The ending is good. About the last 30 minutes summarizes everything again. Which you need in case you were lost when he started talking about something way too technical.
This book will never be a movie. Maybe a NOVA presentation.
This is my first baby book, so I don't really have anything to compare it against. One bun in the oven and we are just making sure we don't rock the boat per this books suggestion. No Mozart in this house.
This book will not cover everything, but it is great for the times where you can only listen and not study. I thought it would be impossible to gain anything worth while without having paper and pen in hand, but this audio book can really add some extra good tools to your GMAT battle. Good luck!
This book is very well narrated. However as an audio book it is hard to follow, if you don't realize the first few chapters are just descriptions of certain people and what they do. Then it jaunts off into a story that mirrors life in the 60s. This story does not carry a heavy plot, it is a light read about life back in the day. It does not dig into the details of life, but rather skims thought processes of old and then throws a light and easy to read plot on top. I for one did not gain enough from this book to suggest it to anyone. I am a guy and this may be a, well, "not a guy book".
However this one was not so great. I would leave it at that, but apparently audible wants me to input more text before I can submit a review. Gladwell's usual statistical data was more opinionated and less focused this time. Random thoughts by Gladwell would have been a reasonable title.
When I first started listening to this book I thought that I had made a really bad purchase. It started to feel like the contents were for people with truly severe phobias or problems. I decided to finish the book and started catching some really great pointers that anyone can apply. I was pleasantly surprised how much some of the methodologies worked for even everyday things that need improvement.
I am just going to quote another review below, because he nailed it for me. "The print edition contains an eight-page list of characters and it's not possible to follow the complex narrative without reference to it." This book is more about characters then the actual events of the financial melt down. And since there are so many real world characters it is hard to track them and it ends up feeling like the Author is just name dropping all over the place. If I could track the characters I think I would have enjoyed it more.
