I liked maybe three of the stories and one of the female narrators other then that I found this to be rather disappointing and I really wanted to like this one. Most of the narration felt like someone giving an emotionless report rather then a story teller. As for the stories themselves, I found them dull and pointless and not even the fun kind of pointless. There were a few of stories that were entertaining but over all not it was a let down.

Let we start by saying that this book was a good listen and I enjoyed most of it. That said, this book felt more like a long filler. No real meat nothing really happened till the end and at that point most every one wound up in about the same type of situation. There was also a bit to much cloak and dagger BS. I know it played little parts in the first to books and that was fine, but here it seemed every one was a spy for some one. I not really in to all that back staby stuff and I tend to avoid it. I really hope it doesn't play such a big roll in the next book.
Not much to like but if I had to pick it be the end because the it was over. What I liked the least, to much graphic sex every other page some one was banging someone. Heck even a maggot ridden zombie got some and it went in to detail, curse my vivid imagination.

I feel this book would lose about 5 to 6 hours if the author spent less time describing peoples privates and how to fit them to. I'm no prude but after the unicorn horn strap on enough is enough.
The story seem to have a good foundation but was put together sloppily. Seems every one has no sense of morals or ethics, heck even the "hero" is will to kill some one because he owed a favor. But heck Lowin is so weak willed he could probably be talked in to most any thing
Thing need explanations. That is all i can say with out giving to much away.
Paul was okay but his voice was wrong for this. The whole book reminded me of the Daniel Garrett voice from hard magic, it was good for the most part but even the arguments and threats sounded it was a friend just pulling your leg.
Lowin, whats the point of a main character who doesn't really have his own mind
With a different narrator i might give the next book a chance.
The Tyen parts of the book for the best and the Rielle parts for the least. Tyen's world was interesting full of a mix of science and magic. Where as Rielle's world was just to over the top stereo types, the corrupt church, uncaring parents, the fruit fling angry mob.

Grant was good he had a range of voices. Hannah was okay except for the voices of both upper class and poor females talked the same way. I don't expect unwed mother in the slums to sound like Eliza Doolittle, but at the same time I don't think she sound like Henry Higgins. Nothing against Hannah but the accent she gave to the females sounded wrong to generic I could not take it for long

Yes, it was a good read. The story and narrator were good and it's something i can get through in a day.
Chicagoland Vampires series, their are some similarities between the vamps and there politics.
The story was good but not really deep enough to be moving.
The only bone I have to pick is the lack of remorse the main character shows for killing. She starts off as an over weight 47 year court clerk, three months later in her first fight she kills over 20 with out a second thought. Shes shown to still have emotions, but she dose not even seem to care when she kills.
Don't take this the wrong way but there was to much God, you can be religious without putting him/her in every conversion. And you can have faith without praying over every little thing. Seems everyone in the book (all but the bad guy anyway) wanted God to control every part of there life to keep them from taking any responsibility.
The base of the story was good but to took to long to get any meat.
Bull, he was the only guy who didn't seem to take him self to seriously.

There are some messages I'm not sure i like in this book;It's OK to drug your children to keep them in linePeople always putting there spouse over there childrenThe hero's having a blanket if your not with us your against us policy on any one who has powers, unless organized big evil. Then you ignore them till they mess with you first.There are others but there the ones that stuck with me.
The background sound effects, they hurt the story more then helped it. It felt more like noises chosen by a child. "Wolf fighting a guy with daggers lets add metal clanging sounds constantly" unless the dog have metal fur I don't see this. It got to the point every fight gave me a mild headache. The music was not much better fading in and out stopping for a few seconds then starting again like some one had to hit the play button again every time the clip ended.
The story was OK, wasn't good wasn't bad just OK. I don't really like it when the author writs it so you have to do back ground reading in other places if you want to know some of the basic history. This is book one of the trilogy this is the place for some of this set up.
The narrators where fine. I'd give them a 4star if not for the noises.
I'd cut the background noise.
This felt more like an attempt at a performance. You don't need content background filler to give a story depth. I'd like to re listen to this book with out sound effects, if that happens it would get a much better rating.
People not acting right, I know it may sound like nit picking or I just didn't like the way the story went. After they were brought back together Matt and Tuni did not act as they have up to that point. Both became unreasonable and seemed to be looking for a fight.
Every thing was great with the story until he (the author) tried making the police and army parts late in the book. They were wholly unbelievable and killed the story. If any common sense research or just watch some TV you'd know that no military (not even Cuban) would allow armed unsanctioned US law enforcement to wonder around a crime zone. And the police should know this and wonder why they were allowed to do so.
Only other book from Chis was the first book in this series so it's on par.
All of Cuba, felt to far fetched and rushed.
From everyone landing in Cuba on the story felt to rushed and contrived for the sole purpose of witch was to kill off daddy and brake up Matt and Tudi, hook up Tudi and Mr evil overlord so in book 3 there will be some tension and eventually getting back together. I could be wrong but it seems awfully transparent.

The narrator no, not even if it was the next Dresden book.
Change narrator, only the main guy and characters with one or two lines had a "normal" voice. All most every one else had an over the top almost slap stick voice. Guys first partner was described as a big guy bit over weight, Brook makes him sound like like that big dumb guy from the old merry melodies cartoons, he was only missing the "duh which way did he go George". (Spoiler warning) Sorry but I was glad when he died in the very beginning of the book so i didn't have to hear to much of it. Others are more annoying others less but over all it really kills the feel of the story.
If I could pick, Michael Kramer or William Dufris. There two of my favorite but both also have a wight range of normal sounding voices to pull from.
Story wasn't bad, could be polished a bit better.
I don't know who this Peter Brook is but he should narrate children books. That's about the only place I can see those voices fitting in and not killing a story.
Over all the writing was to simplistic, felt like it was written kids if not for the content. What humor there was, was juvenile and the evil was over the top and stereotype. I mean at the "Today's password?"and "Dead kittens." I had to roll my eyes.
Dull and dry, It's been my experience that authors make terrible narrators. With a good narrator each person comes alive as it's own personalty but this is just some guy reading aloud.
Story might work if he wrote more like a grown up and did not try to narrate his own story.
