My sister recommended this book and I now refuse to get anything she recommends. By chapter 4, I thought I knew what was coming. By chapter 7, my fears were confirmed. If you like listening to people tell their life stories over and over, even though you know what's coming, then you will love this book.
The story would have been very interesting if the author would have done a better job of employing flash back / flash forward tools. For me, that is what ruins it. It just became too predictable. It's like reading a story by starting with the last 3 chapters, then going to the beginning.
It's in the top 5 of my non-fiction list. Very informative.. I don't agree with all the author's conclusions, but it's a definite must read for people who want to understand how stress affects performance. If you are a first responder of any branch or want to understand the types of stress they encounter, this should be on your reading list.
Stories from police and military people.. Riveting.
No. But, a friend just gave me On Killing in paperback.. I am planning to start reading it soon.
No one particular moment.. There were many poignant moments in the book.
Surprisingly, Bronson Pinchot did an outstanding job of narrating this book. I mean, I was expecting Serg from Beverly Hills Cop, but he was really good. The characters were really interesting as well.
The same thing... That it is a compilation of several short stories by different authors.. It turns out to be both good and bad.
Some of the short stories are really great and some, well, not so much. The same thing can be said about the performances. It's definitely worth the credit to listen to the different authors. I am definitely planning a couple purchases based on this book..
The beginning of this novel almost lost me. Rapp was too simple, single faceted. He was flat and just not as interesting as he was in American Assassin. But, then something happens about a third of the way through that changes it. Turned out to be a very good book.
2 or 3 of them stand out. Ironically, it's not Rapp.
GG makes them all great. He is perfect for this type of Novel.
The attempt on Rapp.
In the top 10
Not sure. It's a mix of some of the odder Steven King stuff and a little bit of Koontz. Different though.
Can't decide. The nice thing about this book is all the characters attract attention.
Very eager to finish it. I kept getting upset when someone would interrupt me.
Didn't read the print version
Very entertaining story. It is especially fun for people like me, mid-40s who grew up with computers, sci-fi movies and TV shows, sci-fi/fantasy games and just good old fashioned dorkiness.... The story is fun, fast, futuristic and still very human and nostalgic all at the same time.
He really captured the feeling of this book. I know Sheldon Cooper will hate me for saying this: But Wil Wheaton rocks.
Not your Daddy's VR.
The story is fun and fast. Yet, at the end, it makes a few good points about balancing real life with technology. And it manages to do it in a subtle way that doesn't sound like someone preaching to you.
Can't put my finger on it.
Dull, cheap cliff hanger with mixed in sound bites.
The narrator saves the book. He does a great job.
Yes to the series, no to this book.
Start with Book 1. If you like the series, this book is kind of obligatory.
Entertaining, although not outstanding.
No. Not extreme. I laughed at places and learned new ways to look a couple concepts.
Avoid Flu Shots!
All of the main character's introspection. No one scene captures it.
The basement scene was haunting, and disgusting.
Tommy?? Well, he is one of the most under-toned yet intriguing characters.
Laughed and cringed.
If you like the sci-fi style of John Scalzi in books like "Red Shirts", AND you like zombies, AND you like suspense, you will like this.
NA, didn't read the print version.
Several good scenes.
Zombies and Superheroes, like peanut butter and chocolate.
A fun adventure story that does an ok job of mixing the Zombie and Superhero genres together in one book. Not great, but a lot of fun.
