"Jumps around but keeps you hooked."
I think that the story might be easier to follow if read instead of listened to, but it was still highly entertaining. The narrator is very good at switching between French, Spanish, Russian, and English characters. Its almost like Dickens the way all the characters come together. I definitely recommend it.
"Great Characters, Fantastic Writing"
Though both are written well, I've enjoyed Todd's Bess Crawford mystery series more than the Inspector Ian Rutledge series. Both take place during or just after WWI, which is an absolutely fascinating time period. It's obvious that Todd has done quite a bit of historical research on the war, which certainly adds to each stories' atmosphere.
The plots might sometimes be a bit of a stretch, but they have enough truth and "believability" so that I've always really enjoyed them.
The characters are the best part. They are so well developed, they're the reason I've gone through the whole Crawford series. After I'd used my Audible credit on the first book and finished it, I instantly purchased the second book so that I wouldn't have to wait a whole month to see how each character's subplots progressed.
The narrator's voice sounds a bit too cold for me at times, but again, each character's personality is very strongly written so that towards the end I wasn't bothered by it.
I thoroughly recommend this book. If you want your characters a bit darker, I suggest the Rutledge series as well.
"Entertaining performance, Addictive story lines."

"A Classic But Poorly Performed"
You can't beat the story. It's fantastic, but the narration (especially for the female character) is annoying and ruins the story. I can usually listen to a good audible book over and over again, but not this one.
"Alright"
I really love a good mystery novel, but I really couldn't get into this book. It was entertaining, but also felt flat. Possibly it was the narration or the storyline. It just felt like it was slowly chugging along.
"Entirely engrossing"
I got far too distracted from work listening to this book. I had a wonderful time listening to it not only because of the plot and writing, but also because of Stevenson's careful and fluid narration.
I've listened to it multiple times now. I thoroughly recommend it.
"Not the most creative, but interesting. "
It will keep you entertained, but its not King's most creative work. The narrators are very expressive and keep the stories at a good pace. Satisfying and interesting.
"Sappy but interesting. 2 1/2 stars really."
I'm usually all for a Jane Austen type of romance, but even this book was too sappy (especially with the background music). Its an entertaining read but not the best. There seemed to be far too many coincidences for even a fictional/fantasy book.
