I purchased this book with reservations. On the one hand I found the premise interesting, on the other I have no fondness for the main narrator's technique. While I am able to lose myself in the content for pages during action sequences, it is during the quiet descriptive lulls that I cringe. His need to impart each sentence with deep emotional content no matter the appropriateness is, to me distracting.
> I found the story very good. With a bit more editing to it King fans might feel right at home.
Just be aware that this edition is the SAME as Something Fresh but without the forward and with B.J. Harrison as the narrator. As I had purchased the other version quite a while ago I returned this one
Just not worth extra credits to get what should have been one complete novel. Good action sequences, but geez author ought to read Adrian Mckinty's trilogy to see how it's done or better yet listen. Gerald Doyle's narration adds a dimension.
A well written novel, skillfully narrated, and ultimately mind numbingly sad. I will have to wait a while before I listen to it again.
be warned if alvin and the chipmunk specials make your ears ache, this reading is not for you. The writing is clever and inventive, the reading well done but the voice characterizations are weak and the electronic voice manipulation just oh so grating. A book to be read.
Altho I liked his previous novels I was unable to finish listening to this book. Take a mediocre novel, add truly unfortunate production choices and top it with a reading in which the vocal interpretation of characters approached comic book believability and you've exceeded my tolerance for pain. I still look forward to his next book.
