For 400 years, the curfew bell has tolled nightly from the church tower of the small country town, Crybbe's only defence against the evil rising unbidden in its haunted streets. Radio reporter Fay Morrison came to Crybbe because she had no choice. Millionaire music tycoon Max Goff came because there was nothing left to conquer, except the power of the spirit. But he knew nothing of the town's legacy of dark magic - and nobody felt like telling him....

What did you like best about Curfew? What did you like least?

    Best - story line
Least - I wanted to get to know some of the characters in more depth.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I thought that was the only way it could have ended.

What does Seán Barrett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The local accents used - not knowing whether they are truly on spot or not, it still added to my listening experience.

Did Curfew inspire you to do anything?

    Avoid New Age Anything! :)

Glory Vigil, newly married, unexpectedly pregnant at 41, is nesting in the home she and her husband, Joseph, have just moved to in Santa Fe, a house that unbeknownst to them is rumored to have a resident ghost. Their adopted daughter, Juniper, is home from college for Thanksgiving and in love for the very first time, quickly learning how a relationship changes everything. But Juniper has a tiny arrow lodged in her heart, a leftover shard from the day eight years earlier when her sister, Casey, disappeared - in a time before she'd ever met Glory and Joseph.

Would you try another book from Jo-Ann Mapson and/or Suzie Venable?

Story line was interesting, if a bit predictable. I found myself wanting to know more information about the side characters than was provided...their stories had potential....I sort of felt like it was abridged, but it wasn't.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Science Fiction genre

    Which scene was your favorite?

Meeting the neighbor with the horses.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Yes. It tells of hardships and how peopple handle them and persevere.

    Any additional comments?

    NO

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

What did you like best about 14? What did you like least?

BEST - Main protagaonists were interesting people with good back stories.
LEAST - unsatisfactory explanations of the "other world" in general.

What aspect of Ray Porter’s performance would you have changed?

It seemed he used an Indian accent for multiple characters - and one wasn't Indian....However, his use of voice differences and accents made the story flow easy.

Did 14 inspire you to do anything?

Since this was the 3rd sci fi type book I read/listened to mentioning Nikola Tesla - I looked up his life story and learned something about the evolution of the use of electricity beyond the basic fact that he worked for Edison and Westinghouse in various capacities.
