Gentle, compelling, timeless
Clearly read at just the right pace to be understood by a child. A gentle read.
Excellent way to introduce a child to the pleasure of audio books. Each chapter stands on its own and captures the attention of the young listener. I enjoyed this book in my youth and found my grandson equally entertained.
The material may have been good, but the narrator's tone was so arrogant and ridiculously over articulated that it was impossible to listen to for longer than a half hour. Good luck to those of you with more patience than I.
My grandson and I, especially him, found this story highly amusing and worthy of much imitation throughout the day. Chicken Little and the Stinky Cheese Man are especially memorable. I fresh retelling of old fairy stories - short and enjoyable.
This amazing, ancient story was so well read it brought tears to my eyes. I know I couldn't have enjoyed this epic story nearly as much had I read it myself. These ancient stories are meant to be heard not read. The resonance and timber of the readers voice brought this poem alive and was as thrilling today as It most likely was to the first listeners. If you liked Audible's reading of Beowulf then the reading of Gilgamesh will not disappoint.
Holy Cow! This was one of the most riveting books I have read/listened to in a very long time. I had no idea Theodore Roosevelt had embarked on such an adventure journey and most amazing of all actually survived given the inept almost casual way in which it was planned! I thought the book would be interesting but the detailed description of rainforest ecology, the politics/prejudices of the day, and the exploitation of amazonian indigenous tribes and individuals made this book incredibly educational but most of all painfully embarrassing for the naivete and privilege expressed by the wealthy white men who undertook this journey.
An unbelievably rich way to approach a horrific period in human history - the German occupation of Poland and the systematic killing of the Jewish citizens of that country. The narrator performed this story in a beautiful, sometimes humourous and always gentle way. I highly recommend this book.
