Here it is the wee hours of the morning and I just finished this book and I am searching for words for this review. The ANA reminded very much of the ARVN in Viet Nam; that our young men and women are even sent out alongside men that are cowards such as the ANA in this book really made me angry. Tapper did not pull his punches. He gave a bold.truthful look at situational SNAFU's the men of Camp Keating had to endure. Endured from the land, the enemy, the villigers, and the fools somewhere up the Chain of Command who thought this was a good location even for an Outhouse much less an Outpost. Tapper introduces us to real people and true events not invented characters and made up missions.
This narrator is new to me but I thought his voice was pleasing and his style of delivery smooth. I am very glad he did not try to give these men 'voices' for that would have distracted from the meat of the story.
If you are looking for a Vince Flynn or Brad Thor type book then "The Outpost" is not for you but if you want a honest account of this one slice of the Afghan War then you will really appreciate this book.
This is the best Connelly I have read in a long while. There are other Mickey Haller books after Lincoln Lawyer but they fell far short of the first. Not this one. Like the first one the roller coaster starts at the bottom and builds and builds. We lose Earl and Mickey is hurt. But everything keeps moving until WHOOSH!! the ending just leaves you with your mouth open in surprise. Peter Giles did a good job on the narration but I do think Dick Hill would have done better but that is just a minor point. ... you'll love it.
Finally! Grisham does what he does best. The return to the Red Dust of Mississippi with Jake and friends was a great treat. Harry Rex still the rascal. Watch it when the whole case blows in Jake's face with a suprise wittness. Now, how can he win this! Well, I will let you find out should you choose. Highly Recommend this one.
This one has it all...hate, revenge, love, forgiveness. Sometimes sequals just do not live up to the original story but this one will not disappoint. If you have read 'Gold Coast' then invest the time to finish the story you wont regret it. I was not familiar with this narrator but he does a good read and I will be looking for more by him.
Marvelous book and as others have said it will stand the test of time. I am not sure I can say anything that other readers have not already said except this is truely a look into how those of the 'well heeled' live and think. John and Susan were born into a world most of us will never know. They lack for nothing and yet they are not satisified nor fullfilled. They never even notice that fact until a man who is just as rich but oh so dangerous to their world of priveledge moves in next door. He's just not their 'kind' of people so what will knowing him bring into their world. Could he be their forbidden fruit?
Great book to do in audio since the first voice you hear it just sooooooo creepy. Dick Hill does creepy well. :-) I just got lost in the characters. And the plot is alot like being on a rollacoaster. At the end of Part1 I thought " I got this one all figured out". WRONG! Whoosh! around another bend at Mach 3 it went. And the ending is just mind blowing that I warn you, you will never see coming. Highly recommend this one.
I read Deuterman's Cam Richter series and love them so I thought I would sample his other offerings. So glad I did. First rattle out of the barrel, the action and suspense starts. Vanished teens, creepy woods, spooky governmnet installation, good ol' mountain boy's, a dad that wont give up, FBI who is one tough lady. So what's not to like here. And Dick Hill... oh my, what a great performance!!!
This was just a fun book. I enjoyed all the 'fox jobs' Jack pulled with the hounds on his trail. That being said, he breaks out of a military jail??? Really?? Now, that is having to suspend belief beyond what I can manage. I gave it mostly high marks on Mr. Hill's narration and the fact it was just a fun read that I didnt have to really think about as I listened. And if that's what you are looking for then here is a good one for you! But Mr.Child needs to get back to some more plausible writing.
This author is new to me but what a find! I am a big Dick Hill fan and just looking for something of which he was narrator led me here. Great new characters for me to get to know and an exciting plot that is very well thought out. Cam, Frick and Frack, what a trio!!! Good action that grabs your attention and holds on from page one to a fast tumbling end. Dick Hill does a great read but when he has great material to work with he 'shines' Totally enjoyable.
Just finished this... panting,... wait let me catch my breath. I felt like I was chasing the characters all the time. It just moved from one action scene to another at breakneck speed. I liked the plot. I liked the characters from what I got to know of them. I wish this author had taken the time to develope some of the characters and relationships in a deeper fashion. At times it seemed as if Mr Guidall himself was having a hard time keeping the thing from running off the track. All in all I think you will like the book if you just want a fast mover.
If you can put away the Matt Damon version of Jason Bourne then things will be fine and dandy for you. I have to admit I had a hard time doing that in some parts of this book due to the stilted dialog between Jason and Marie and their instant love affair. You can understand this happening in the movie because they only have 2 hours. Here we have 22 hours but still they fall madly in love in a matter of days. Wow, where can I get me some of that? I was not overly impressed with the whole thing. I felt the action was just dragging along. I just read another spy novel that I felt like that action moved like the Katy Flyer and I was running like He** behind it all the time. Few there be and far between, in my humble opinion, that strike that happy balance of action and character development. I love the voice of Scott Brick, so honestly, that is what got me through. So, I am not sure if I will be trying the next in the series or not, but I will think on it. This review is not going to win me any friends among the die hard Ludlum fans, but I 'calls 'em like I sees 'em. ~ :o)
