"Somewhat confused on where the author is going"
The Wise Man's Fear has a lot of interesting things and a couple really good side stories but I am a little confused as to where the author intends to take the story. The ending was very strange.
I enjoyed The Name of the Wind better.
Nick Podehl is very good reading the Kingkiller Cronicle books. He has great comand of the story and very good character voicings.
I like the scenes with Denna because they remind me of my first adolecent love. All the enjoyable moments as well as the frustration.
It will be interesting to see where the author goes with the story next.
"Interesting vision of a bleak future"
The story was interesting and the concept was well developed. The only thing that I did not like is that it was written in first person. As a first person narrative it is a little flat and one dimensional.
I would not have written it in first person. That would have allowed for deeper character development and thoughts of the other characters.
The hotel.
Yes, it was a good story and Claire Danes is an excellent reader.
"Lots of words for not much action."
It is an interestng concept, but it is never fully developed to any real degree. It is almost as if the author had an idea an then just started writing with no real outline for the story.
The reader was ok but the story pivots around Madison Wisconsin. I am from Wisconsin and none of the characters sounded like they were from Wisconsin. The reader had a British accent for starters.
Not really, it was an interesting concept but it didn't really get going in this book.
"Pretty good story, a little twist at the end"
It was a pretty good story, it had a couple of good twists. More of a detective strory than anything else. Worth a listen.
The concept of a modern mans views of 1882 and vice versa.
It was a little flat, no real distincton between character voices.
No but I understand that there was one written. The ending is meant to be an ending and I thought it was well done.
I was looking for a time travel book with some paradoxical situations. This book really didn't deliver on that.
"Good book, not at all what I expected"
Sure, it is a good sci-fi mystery book. Good story, enjoyable characters.
I was not expecting the last 8 chapters. The story showed no signs of what the ending would be.
Great performance, distinct voices for each charecter.
No, it was a good listen to at work book.
I thought this book was a time travel book, it does touch on that but it is more of a mystery than a time travel book. But it is a good story and worth a listen.
"Dang it she got me again"
I can't sum it up in 3 words. It was a good "shadow" book of Oryx and Crake and did tie up the ending of O&C. But she got me again because this book ends in a kind of cliff hanger just as O&C did.
Interesting having a different point of view of the events of the waterless flood. Good characters, good story flow.
The three narrators were excellent. I was not crazy about the singing but it is an audio book so what the heck!
Shadow of the Snowman.
The thrid book better come out soon and it better finish the story!!!!
"Didn't see that coming!"
The ending was a shocker. The story was very well written and well laid out. At times I wondered how these things tied together but in the end it is all wrapped up with a neat bow.
Elizabeth. She seems to be the only one with pure motives.
The one where they are trying to save the bank of England.
Don't blink.
Very good book. Well written, well thought out, very well read. Very enjoyable.
"Great start to a grand adventure"
This book is a good story. It is pretty straight forward without any big twists or turns. It is a good start for the Hornblower stories. I was a little taken by surprise at the abrupt ending, but that too was appropriate.
It was a good introduction of Hornblower, who, although the hero was still learning his craft. He makes plenty of mistakes along the way but in the end does a good job.
The scene with the fire barges was well written, very vivid.
Hornblower, all of the rest of the characters were simply supporting players.
This is a short book but well worth the listen.
"Too hard to listen to. Need a good reader"
I like Ray Bradbury and it pains me to give this such a low score but the production of this recording read by Bradbury is almost unintelligible.
Very poor production.
It is a good story but the production was bad.
"Not a good detective or wizard story, just OK."
I probably would not recommend this book. It was just OK. It was not a good detective strory and it wasn't a good wizard story. It was an average combination story. I will not be listening to any more of the Dresden files books.
Perhaps but not the Dresden stories. There are other books in a simlar genre that I have like much better. I thought Hard Magic was a better story for this genre.
Not much drama
It inspired me to find something else to listen to.
I know this series is very popular so maybe I just don't get it but I was not impressed with this book.
"Slow with no payoff"
I had heard that this book and series was as good or better than the Hunger Games books. So I had high hopes for this book; however, I found it to be slow developing and not vary engaging.
I doubt I will listen to any other Veronica Roth books. I was not impressed with Divergent. That was disappointing because I had high hopes for this book.
Just OK.
No but at least it was short. I kept hoping things would get better but frankly it never did.
Not engaging.
