New York in 1947 glows with postwar energy. Harry Copeland, an elite paratrooper who fought behind enemy lines in Europe, returns home to run the family business. In a single, magical encounter on the Staten Island ferry, the young singer and heiress Catherine Thomas Hale falls for him instantly but too late to prevent her engagement to a much older man. Harry and Catherine pursue one another in a romance played out in postwar America’s Broadway theaters, Long Island mansions, and the haunts of gangsters.

Michael Havel was flying over Idaho en route to the holiday home of his passengers when the plane's engines inexplicably died, forcing a less than perfect landing in the wilderness. And, as Michael leads his charges to safety, he begins to realize that the engine failure was not an isolated incident.

"Dies the Fire and the entire six book series"
    Overall

Found it difficult to turn the stories off and go to sleep. I listened to the first three and then bought the next two in book form and the sixth in audio. Stirling has great character development and describes the flora an fauna so well that I feel that I have been to the spot he is describing. When he describes the meals being eaten, it often forces me to head for fridge.
