  • Sir Philip's Folly: The Poor Relation, Book 4

Just when everything at the Poor Relation Hotel seems to be running smoothly, Sir Philip brings in another poor relation, Mrs. Budge. When Sir Philip presents his paramour, Lady Fortescue swears great oaths and says the woman is probably related to half the costermongers in London and certainly does not possess one rich relative. Mrs. Budge does nothing but eat all day and refused to do any work around the hotel. Worst of all, Miss Tonks seems to be taking the romance between Sir Philip and Mrs. Budge quite hard.

When you just want a good historical story you can't beat the Poor Relations! The series is wonderful but I would recommend you start at the beginning. Even though I love murder and sex in my books it is nice to take a break! You don't get any better than Davina Porter as a narrator!

"Oh to be as beautiful as Euphemia!" plain Jane Hart sighs when she joins her sister Euphemia at Number 67 Clarges Street for the season. Then Lord Tregarthan might notice her, as she had noticed him and forever lost her heart to the most eligible bachelor of the town. But Euphemia’s fate is to flirt through balls and into the arms of a marquis, while Jane’s is to stay home, amusing herself with snooping into the strange death of Miss Clara Vere-Baxton, a former tenant of Number 67.

Enjoyed this as much as the first and hope Audible gets number 3. You can't go wrong with M.C. Beaton. If you like this series you might want to try the Irish Country series by Patrick Taylor.

The last thing patrol cop Kate Prospero expected to find on her nightly rounds was a werewolf covered in the blood of his latest victim. But then, she also didn't expect that shooting him would land her in the crosshairs of a Magic Enforcement Agency task force, who wants to know why she killed their lead snitch. The more Prospero learns about the dangerous new potion the MEA is investigating, the more she's convinced that earning a spot on their task force is the career break she's been wanting. But getting the assignment proves much easier than solving the case.

I liked this book and it was worth a credit. The cop and magic mix was enjoyable. Looking forward to the next book.
Morgan Hallett did a good job with the narration.
If you are looking for an interesting book with cops and magic this is for you. If you want to take a break from stories heavy on the sex this book is a good choice.
    And yes worth a credit.

If you like Craig Johnson try William Kent Krueger the Cork O'Connor series

Eff was born a thirteenth child. Her twin brother, Lan, is the seventh son of a seventh son. This means he's supposed to possess amazing talent - and she's supposed to bring only bad things to her family and her town. Undeterred, her family moves to the frontier, where her father will be a professor of magic at a school perilously close to the magical divide that separates settlers from the beasts of the wild. With wit and wonder, Patricia Wrede creates an alternate history of westward expansion that will delight fans of both J. K. Rowling and Laura Ingalls Wilder.

This is a story of a pioneer girl (Ef) in a fictional country similar to America but with magic. Magical creatures and pioneers that learn and use magic.
Ef is a strong girl and I really liked her. This is a YA series that is a great adult listen!

Was excited when I saw this series on the summer sale. First three books for $3.95 each, what a deal! Purchased book one and started it right away thinking if I like it to get the others during the sale.

UGH, I don't like it.....there is something about the writing and narration that is off putting to me. The story seems shallow and the narration does not help that. Not saying the narrator is bad it's the combination maybe.

I love PNR but these dragons are not my thing. My recommendation try it only on sale.

As soon they are released, Amanda Quick’s romances shoot to the top of best seller lists. With over 22 million copies of her books in print, she is one of today’s hottest authors. Set in Regency-era England, Mischief offers a sparkling mixture of wit and intrigue that has become Quick’s trademark. Beautiful, headstrong Imogen Waterstone has recruited the darkly infamous Earl of Colchester to help her seek revenge for the murder of her best friend. As they set a trap for the villain, Imogen and Colchester fearlessly encounter the threats and dangers that come their way.

If you want a historical romance with a cute heroine this is it. The story is not deep, not a lot of sex but, I liked it. Barbara Rosenblat was a little theatrical in her narration but it fit the story. Good sale book. Don't know that it is worth a credit.

The book was not just about two characters but really touched on many of the Celt villagers and Vikings.
Got this book on sale but would spend a credit on another book from this author.

Most girls might think twice before getting engaged to someone like Reyes Farrow - but Charley Davidson is not most girls. She’s a paranormal private eye and grim-reaper-in-training who’s known to be a bit of a hell-raiser, especially after a few shots of caffeine. Her beloved Reyes may be the only begotten son of evil, but he’s dark and sultry and deeply sexy and everything Charley could hope for. Really. But when the FBI file on Reyes’ childhood happens to land into her lap, she can’t help herself: She opens it...and then the real fun begins.

I am sorry, can't wait for book seven!!! I am sorry book six was not longer!
Charley Davidson is great! Unlike some of the other reviews to me book six did NOT disappoint.
Darynda Jones is a great author! Lorelei King does Charley wonderfully. The beginning of each chapter is always a treat, I love the sayings.
There was a lot going on in book six. My plan is to listen to book six again before book 7 or maybe re-listen to the whole series (it's that good). This is not a series you want to start in the middle, start with book 1 and enjoy!!
