Fun, thrilling, otherworldly
I do not want to give anything away.
It made me laugh, hold my breath, and to get more of the series
The 1st book of many written in the early 1900s. It is amazing that the author had so many insights on the devices of the future (present day). It is also amazing how many of today's authors are impacted by Edgar Rice Burroughs. This story wasa fun and enjoyable listen during my drive to and from work.
The quality of Help ranks in the top ten percent among all the audiobooks I have listened to so far. I normally enjoy sci-fi and mystery stories with solid characters but after watching the movie I decided to listen to the book and I am glad I did.
Ms. Stockett's detailed descriptions of life in the early 1960s was impeccable. She brought back memories from my childhood with vivid descriptions of places, people, and events. Using only words, she is able to provide a clear understanding of the environments where her characters live. TV shows that are set in different time periods have the help of set designs and wardrobe to paint the picture. Ms. Stockett had her words alone and she used them superbly.
Many of the narrators repeated their performances in the movie. In addition, the stellar cast of this book has narrators who are well known actresses. Their story narration compares to any of their individual performances in other movies and theater productions. This is the first book I have listened to with this type of narration with individuals speaking one part. I liked it very much but this doesn't diminish the abilities and talent of solo narrators' ability to act every part. The two types of audiobooks really can't be compared.
Hearing the true feelings of white housewives love for their black maids was so moving since they felt they could not speak of these emotions without backlash. One particular housewife described the steps that her maid took to keep her from committing suicide. Each person's story blended together to make an entire truth of time, place, and civilization. Absolutely worth the credit! It is a 'not to be missed' story in my opinion.
This story grabbed me by the heart and head and kept me guessing until the final page. Actually it is a story that continues to stay with me and keeps me wondering 'what if'. It is one of my favorite books I have listened to and would be hard book to beat.
Jake Epping is the main character in the book. He is a likable character and easy to care about throughout the book
No but he was a very good audio book performer and I would purchase another book with his narration
A day that lives in history....and in the present.
Fantastic story by Stephen King. Well developed characters in a great nail biter plot. Very hard to hit pause until the end.
