I LOVE Julie Garwood and wish more of her books were available. But this one did not live up to standards. Story was slow and characters were not as compelling. Not crazy about the narrator either.
I love this narrator and this genre so I thought I would give this book a try. Never read any of this authors books before. I just couldnt get into this one. I couldn't care about the characters because I didn't like them. Rebecca was pretty blah and the Rouge (I can't even remember his name he was so disappointing) was just a jerk. He has some wit but he wasn't all that likeable. Not very romantic.
I loved this book. The characters were great and the story funny and touching. I laughed out loud several times. The softball scene is great writing and well done in narration. Anna Fields really makes these characters come to life. SEP makes skillful use of the childrens book aspect of the main character to give the writing a creative punch- especially in the epilogue.
If you liked Nobody's Baby But Mine and Natural Born Charmer than you will surely like this witty romance.
This is the first book by this author that I have read and have been wondering how I missed her for so long. Have devoured all of her books since.
This book surprised me from the first line... "Phoebe Sommerville outraged everyone by bringing a French poodle and a Hungarian lover to her father's funeral." And it kept surpirsing me... unexpecected characters, humor, sweetness. While the ending was outrageous it fit the characters perfectly.
