This is an good listen for all Pride and Prejudice fans although it is not my favorite version of the story told from Darcy's point of view. The narrator was quite good but I wasn't sure I liked the author's interpretation of the character.

Margaret Beaufort is one of those intriguing people whose role is pivotal in history but whose name we barely recognize. She is a descendent (although somewhat indirectly) of Edward I of England and eventually mother of the boy who became Henry VII. Of the Lancaster line, her whole life was supposedly devoted to marrying the right men, making the right allies and putting her son on the throne of England where she believed he should be instead of the one of the Yorks. The War of the Roses is a fascinating time in English history, full of intrigue, extreme ambition and violence. According to this story, she fancied herself a sort of Joan of Arc of England who was chosen by God to put the rightful king on the throne. There's some doubt in my mind that at that point the Lancaster's claim was any stronger than the York's but it all came down to who could out maneuver the other. She believed she was on God's mission but never questioned if it was truly God's work or her own ego that drove her. In short, I got bored with her self-righteous attitude and found myself disliking her intensely.

I bought this book because it was a Nancy Pearl recommendation and it sounded intriguing. A post-apocalyptic story in which teenagers are chosen by lottery and forced to fight to the death? How could that be anything but depressing? The book was not at all what I was expecting. This is a great story with unforgettable and well-developed characters that looks what happens when the people with power do everything they can to force others into submission through fear and intimidation.
In spite of everything that the main character goes through, she manages to retain her humanity and her sense of right and wrong. Part of what keeps Katniss on track is her relationship with her fellow competitor, Peeta whose kindness and devotion are so strong that Katniss it helps her see things more clearly. Although this book is intended for teenage readers, I found myself in love with the characters and hooked on this unusual coming of age story.
Now I can't wait to see what happens in the next two books.

I love the Anne of Green Gables series and I really enjoyed listening to it again.

Even if you're not familiar with the BBC series or the book by the same name, you'll still enjoy these heart-warming animal stories. Taking place mainly during the 30's and 40's in Yorkshire, England, Herriot's descriptions of the characters he encounters -- both human and animal -- often make me laugh out loud or bring me to tears.

Love the story but I wish Lorelei King had been the reader.

This story is set against the backdrop of the conflict between Cromwell and the King of England, Charles I. It's one of the ultimate stories of yearning and devotion to a love that can never be.

This is one of the best ever thrillers! This story has it's roots in Austen and Bronte and has been an influence on all romance stories that have followed it.

This is a really fun book to listen to. I wish there was an unabridged version. I also wish they would reissue this with a different reader. Lorelei King who does many of the later books is much better.

I not only enjoy reading about Stepanie Plum -- I also look forward to listening to the books on my iPod. It's fun to see where Stepanie started out in her relationships with Ranger, Morelli, Lula, etc. Lori Petty is not my favorite reader in the Plum series. Lorelei King is much better. Why no unabridged version for those of us who love Janet Evanovich?

I really wish they would reissue this audio book in an unabridged version with a different reader. Lorelei King who narrates most of the books is far better than Lori Petty.
