In the fall of 1940, the Nazis are at the height of their power. France is occupied, Britain is enduring the Blitz and is under threat of invasion, America is neutral, and Russia is in an uneasy alliance with Germany. Stephen Metcalfe is a well-known man about town in occupied Paris. He's also a minor asset in the U.S.'s secret intelligence forces in Europe. Through a wild twist of fate, it falls to Metcalfe to instigate a bold plan that may be the only hope for what remains of the free world.

    Overall

I have been a Ludlum fan for many years and this story didn't let me down. If you like a WWII spy novel you'll like this. I enjoyed the narrator also. This is just my fourth book I've listen to and he did a wonderful job keeping me interested in the characters and the feeling of the characters at all times.

As a police launch speeds across Miami's Biscayne Bay - with officer Nestor Camacho on board - Tom Wolfe is off and running. Here is a big, panoramic story of the new America, as told by our master chronicler of the way we live now. Based on the same sort of detailed, on-scene, high-energy reporting that powered Tom Wolfe's previous best-selling novels, Back to Blood is another brilliant, spot-on, scrupulous, and often hilarious reckoning with our times.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This book was a tough listen I thought the story was slow developing.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I needed to become engaged with the characters, I found my mind wandering during the listen

For LAPD homicide cop Harry Bosch - hero, maverick, nighthawk - the body in the drainpipe at Mulholland Dam is more than another anonymous statistic. This one is personal. The dead man, Billy Meadows, was a fellow Vietnam "tunnel rat" who fought side by side with him in a nightmare underground war that brought them to the depths of hell.

Daniel Mcafee says: "What a Terrific Book"

I think I have read most of Connelly's Harry Bosch novels. This give you a starting point and delves into his tunnel rat experience. If you are a Bosch fan this is a great listen.

When John Sutter's aristocratic wife killed her mafia don lover, John left America and set out in his sailboat on a three-year journey around the world, eventually settling in London. Now, 10 years later, he has come home to the Gold Coast, that stretch of land on the North Shore of Long Island that once held the greatest concentration of wealth and power in America, to attend the imminent funeral of an old family servant.

James B says: "Brilliant Conclusion to Gold Coast"
    "Not de Mille's best"
    Overall

I have read or listened to many of Nelson de Mille books this was not his best work and I can't recommend it. This book seemed to be a collection of sarcastic commentary by the main character about his relationship with his ex wife and inlaws. I listened to 2/3 of the book and could not take it anymore. If their was a compeling plotline to hold my attention; I had not discovered it by that time. I recommend any other of the authors titles.

James A. Warren's battle-driven history shows how this elite culture has produced the best warriors in the country, through six decades, several open wars, and many smaller interventions. From their heroic performance in the Pacific War, against Japanese troops on god-forsaken islands, to their "tip-of-the-lance" leadership in key operations in the two Gulf Wars, the Marines have proven again and again that elite men with elite training are worth entire armies.

I have read or listened to many books on the subject of the marines and their battle history. This listen will give you a broad overview of all the battles be they on the battle field or in the halls of political power of the marines since WWII. If you are interested in modern marine history this is a great place to start.

Based on months spent with the battalions in Fallujah and hundreds of interviews at every level (senior policymakers, negotiators, generals, and soldiers and Marines on the front lines) No True Glory is a testament to the bravery of the American soldier and a cautionary tale about the complex, and often costly, interconnected roles of policy, politics, and battle in the twenty-first century.

This was a great listen well documented account of the battle for this pivotal city in Iraq. You never hear about the brave soldiers and the intense fighting that went on. Well read and well written this is something everyone should listen to no matter what side of the issue you are on. The Author gives you a wide view of all that went into the decision making process to under take this fight.

His tenure in the windy, snow-covered north is cut short when Miles narrowly averts a massacre between the trigger-happy base commander and mutinous recruits. After a brief stay under 'house arrest', Miles is re-assigned to investigate a suspicious military build-up near a wormhole nexus.

    "Nice introdution to Author"
    Overall

This was the first book I have listened to by this author and I was pleasently surprised. I knew she was an award winning author but was a little afraid to read any of her stuff thinking it is more in the fantasy genre. I do love a good space opera and this was a excellent one I loved the characters and the wit that the lead character has. I also like the reader who I have listened to on other books he brings just the right cadence to his read. I highly recommend this book and hope more of this seris is put out for us to listen to.

In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

    Jake Williams says: "Altered Carbon"

This book is a good example why I like Audible. I would have never picked this book up by looking at the title. The author has combined the 2 genre I love Sci-Fi and a good detective novel. If you like the 2 this is a listen for you. I felt like I couldn't stop listening wanted more and I wanted to solve the mystery .What more could a listener ask for. More of this author please.

New York Times best-selling author Oliver North, popular host of FOX News Channel's top-rated War Stories program, provided an insightful look at Operation Iraqi Freedom in the first hard-hitting book based on his show. Now in this second book, North shares the accomplishments of the heroic men who fought in the Pacific theater of World War II.

I have read/listen to many books about WWII and I rank this with the Greatest Generation by Tom Brokaw. The campaign in the Pacific some times is over looked. This is another tremendous story of the heroism and sacrifice that all combat soldiers go through. It again left me with a feeling of gratitude for what that generation did for their children and granchildren. I highly recommend this listen if you have any interest in the personel views of those who where there.
