A teen idol at 15, an international icon and founder of the Brat Pack at 20, and one of Hollywood's top stars to this day, Rob Lowe chronicles his experiences. Never mean-spirited or salacious, Lowe delivers unexpected glimpses into his successes, disappointments, relationships, and one-of-a-kind encounters with people who shaped our world over the last 25 years. These stories are as entertaining as they are unforgettable.

    Story

If you're a Rob Lowe fan, do you really need to know more than the fact that he reads his book himself? But if you do, I found this to be an interesting look into the life of a Hollywood actor of my generation. I enjoyed all the behind-the-scenes moments and Mr. Lowe is only generous and positive about all (and there are many) his Hollywood co-stars -- no snarkiness here. Best of all are Mr. Lowe's impressions of other actors. I've listened to this twice. Start listening already!

On a cold and snowy night in 1910, Ursula Todd is born to an English banker and his wife. She dies before she can draw her first breath. On that same cold and snowy night, Ursula Todd is born, lets out a lusty wail, and embarks upon a life that will be, to say the least, unusual. For as she grows, she also dies, repeatedly, in a variety of ways, while the young century marches on towards its second cataclysmic world war.

At first I was unsure about this book, but the more we lives we lived, the better it got. It was a fascinating study on what could be, what might have been. This could have gone on and I would still be listening.

The Bigtree alligator-wrestling dynasty is in decline, and Swamplandia!, their island home and gator-wrestling theme park, formerly number-one in the region, is swiftly being encroached upon by a fearsome and sophisticated competitor called the World of Darkness. Ava’s mother, the park’s indomitable headliner, has just died; her sister, Ossie, has fallen in love with a spooky character known as the Dredgeman, who may or may not be an actual ghost.

The narration by Arielle Sitrick really took away from this book. It was very poor quality -- flat with a lot of swallowed words and very little emotion. Compared in-book with the narration of David Ackroyd she pales even more in comparison. Mr. Ackroyd's section were vastly superior. I have to say I was very disappointed and surprised by this lack of talent.

When I finished listening to the book and thought about it I did realize that the story actually has something to it worth reading and worth thinking about. In this case I wish I had just read it. I've never felt that way about an audiobook before.

Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.

Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

The performance of this audiobook was so well done that each character had his or her own perfect voice. I was constantly being taken by surprise by this book and I really loved the journey it took me on. I never wanted it to end.

I would hate to describe this story any more than it has been because I felt there was so much joy in the surprises.

I will say that overall this book has a lot to say about how we judge each other and how we forgive each other. The latter being something all too rare.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

This book was so twisted, but I loved it. I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that if you like the dark side, then this is a story for you. The performances were excellent. I am fans of both readers and I think they do an AMAZING job of bringing the story to life.

A compelling novel of desire, secrecy, and sexual identity, In One Person is a story of unfulfilled love—tormented, funny, and affecting—and an impassioned embrace of our sexual differences. Billy, the bisexual narrator and main character of In One Person, tells the tragicomic story (lasting more than half a century) of his life as a “sexual suspect,” a phrase first used by John Irving in 1978 in his landmark novel of “terminal cases,” The World According to Garp.

I am huge fan of John Irving, but this one just didn't work for me. I felt like there was a lot of recycling from several of his past books (boys private school, growing up in New England, transsexuals, etc) and I just didn't get anything new out of this book. Maybe I missed something?

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

The strength and integrity of Louis Zamporini shines through every minute of this story that is expertly told both by author and narrator. I am not generally a World War II buff, but this story reached me and I simultaneously wanted to reach the end and never wanted to. This is a story I will never forget. I recommend this to just about anyone.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Once in awhile superior writing combines with superior narration to create a sum that is greater than its parts. Don't be scared off because Stephen King is the author. This is not blood, guts and gore, but rather a truly fascinating story of time travel and an examination of what might have been and what could be. You will not ever want to stop listening.

This audiobook is at the top of my list of all time incredible listens. I recommend this to everyone.

Based on more than 40 interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

This book is about an incredible life and incredible time in history. As I listened I wasn't always sure I wanted to hear and now know all I know about Steve Jobs, but there is no doubt that this is a very well-researched, thoughtful biography. I was riveted the entire time.

My only complaint is that the narrator had some quirks in his pronunciation of certain words that really grated on me including pronouncing "kludgy" as if it rhymed with "fudgey" instead of "fugee." Everyone in computer development knows and uses that word.

You are about to travel to Edgecombe St. Mary, a small village in the English countryside filled with rolling hills, thatched cottages, and a cast of characters both hilariously original and as familiar as the members of your own family. Among them is Major Ernest Pettigrew (retired), the unlikely hero of Helen Simonson's wondrous debut. Wry, courtly, opinionated, and completely endearing, Major Pettigrew is one of the most indelible characters in contemporary fiction.
