Mick must face the dragon council for breaking their laws, and while he doesn't seem too worried about his upcoming trial, Janet will do anything to keep him safe. She'll need a little help from her friends, old and new: Nash and Coyote; Cassandra, a powerful witch turned hotel manager; and Colby, a sort-of-trustworthy dragon. But now a new, dark power is stirring in Magellan that Janet must face - and even more frightening, one is stirring within herself.

After reading this second book of the series there is improvement and the overall feel of the story and characters for me, as the first one left me lukewarm and only mildly interested in continuing with the series in general.

Having chosen to read on I found a better understanding of Janet, she is tough, smart and compassionate. A well rounded character is forming and her relationships with the other characters are coming to life and feel more sincere. I look forward to reading the rest of the series now.

The daughter of an underworld goddess she is being trailed and monitored by gods, powerful dragons and others who are watching to see if she will realize the strength of her own power and if she will be able to handle it wisely or destroy the world.

What did you love best about The Spinoza Trilogy?

Spinoza is a great character. An investigator with a few demons of his own specializes in finding missing persons and in the course of a few of his cases he discovers the existence of vampires.

What other book might you compare The Spinoza Trilogy to and why?

I can't think of specific title to compare but this is a great fix for us J. R. Rain fans who love his stories, this does not disappoint.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    Contact with his son.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A lost P.I. For the missing.

    Any additional comments?

I do recommend. A very good trilogy.

Where does Tiger's Promise rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I Love the Tiger Series and this was a wonderful addition. Well done.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Tiger's Promise?

Yesubai is a wonderful character and although there was truly not much more that could be added to make it possible to stay in the plot and direction of entire series, it was sad that such a good character could only play a small part. I really enjoyed her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    yes, it was short story.

  • Never Turn Your Back on an Angus Cow: My Life As a Country Vet

Dr. Jan Pol is not your typical veterinarian. Born and raised on a dairy farm in the Netherlands, he is the star of Nat Geo Wild's hit show The Incredible Dr. Pol and has been treating animals in rural Michigan since the 1970s. Dr. Pol's 20,000-plus patients have ranged from white mice to 2,600-pound horses and everything in between.

Would you listen to Never Turn Your Back on an Angus Cow again? Why?

I would listen to this one again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well, Dr. Pol of course. I am an animal lover and own several, if Dr. Pol was my local vet I would hire him everytime. Im a fan of the show and so happy this book was written. He has led a wonderful life doing what he loves and it shows in his energy and sense of humor.

Which character – as performed by Tom Perkins – was your favorite?

Narration was fine but I wish that Dr. Pol could have read this himself. I like the accent very much.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When he discussed his feelings about euthanasia. Its the hardest emotional issue any pet owner may have to face at sometime and it was nice to know Dr. Pol sympathizes with these choices too as he had to make this choice even for his own pets.

    Any additional comments?

Dr. Pol Rocks. If you like the show you need to read this.

When Ibby Bell's father dies unexpectedly in the summer of 1964, her mother unceremoniously deposits Ibby with her eccentric grandmother Fannie and throws in her father's urn for good measure. Fannie's New Orleans house is like no place Ibby has ever been - and Fannie, who has a tendency to end up in the local asylum - is like no one she has ever met. Fortunately, Fannie's black cook, Queenie, and her smart-mouthed daughter, Dollbaby, take it upon themselves to initiate Ibby into the ways of the South both its grand traditions and its darkest secrets.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I do recommend this novel. The narration was done well and I liked each of the characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I think Doll Baby was my favorite character, especially once I found out the family secrets about her. I would have enjoyed even more detail about this kind, strong and devoted woman. All the characters had enjoyable traits that could make me giggle and sympathize with their antics and lives.

Which character – as performed by January Lavoy – was your favorite?

Fannie is a character in the true sense. She is comical and mysterious and January Lavoy's reading gave her enjoyable life.

    Any additional comments?

Fans of The Help and The Kitchen would also enjoy this novel. I do recommend giving this one a try.

Would you listen to Miramont's Ghost again? Why?

I will probably revisit this novel in the future. Its unique in that it is a ghost's story. Not about the haunting itself but about the life before its after life.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I was actually confused about this being a ghost story. This is the story of Adrienne's fictional life in the Miramont Castle in Colorado. She had a complex life of happy memories of a wonderful grandfather, loss, abusive relatives and her abilities as a clairvoyant and how her perceptions molded her life.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The interactions of her with the grandfather.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was very sad for the abuse she had to endure. I wanted horrible things for the characters who were hurting her.

    Any additional comments?

I recommend this for a listen. Narration was well done and the story plot did well also. I usually rely heavily of reviews left here and in this case I ignored the negative notes and took a chance. I was pleasantly surprised and you maybe too. Give it a try.

Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. "Jess and Jason," she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good? Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes, but with the warning that I, did not find one strong or redeemable character in this story. All of them are victims of their own shortcomings.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The sad description of Megan's baby. It was emotional.

Was The Girl on the Train worth the listening time?

It was ok, I was curious so now I know about it.

Whispering Pines is a classic, quiet, private American subdivision on the edge of Asheville, NC, set in the pristine Blue Ridge Mountains. Which is good since the zombie apocalypse has come to Western North Carolina and really put suburban living to the test! Surrounded by a sea of the undead, the residents of Whispering Pines have adapted their bucolic life of block parties to scavenging parties, common area groundskeeping to immediate area warfare, neighborhood beautification to neighborhood fortification.

The isolated, maximum security prison for the criminally insane that houses some of the nation’s deadliest, most frightening psychopaths. But when a freak storm cuts off all communications and causes a massive power outage, the prisoners get loose...and find there is nowhere to go. The blizzard rages outside. The inmates are now in charge and the staff must band together to survive.

    Any additional comments?

This is a fair story only. It could be spooky if told in the dark around a campfire where being spooked is the quick goal. The criminally insane are not the ones to fear the most here, the owner of facility is a whack job and creates a monster using the prisoners as experiments that is super reanimating eating machine and anyone in its path is on the menu and consumed in a variety of mutilating and painful ways. Eck.

Spooky, and creepy story, yes, but it lacked a bit more character building that would have drawn me in more. The characters who had potential to be really interesting to me came just short of the mark, I was left detached from their plight.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?
