I listened to this book as the second in a series of four books. As with the first, it wasn't bad but just didn't have much substance. Bed of Roses certainly doesn't have Nora Roberts usual flair and exciting plot. The characters were likable but there was no meat to the story and when it ended I was left feeling like I wasn't finished. Nora Roberts is one of my favorite authors but this quartet of books just hasn't impressed me.

With the legends and lore of Ireland running through his blood, falconer Connor O’Dwyer is proud to call County Mayo home. It’s where his sister, Branna, lives and works, where his cousin, Iona, has found true love, and where his childhood friends form a circle that can’t be broken. A circle that is about to be stretched out of shape - by a long-awaited kiss. Meara Quinn is Branna’s best friend, a sister in all but blood. Her and Connor’s paths cross almost daily, as Connor takes tourists on hawk walks and Meara guides them on horseback across the lush countryside.

I was excited to start the second book of this series as I always enjoy Nora Roberts. But, the narration is just not up to par. It is stilted at best and I feel as though I am being shouted at. I think I would be better satisfied in reading this particular book instead of listening. It is not so much that Mr. Smyth doesn't read well but when he does the individual characters' dialogues he doesn't make them believable or natural sounding. Most times you don't even notice that the same person is reading all of the parts but in this case it is very distracting. It has not been a pleasure to listen to but I think I will go back and read the story so that I can truly enjoy it.

FBI Special Agent Griffin Hammersmith, last seen in Backfire, has been recruited by Dillon Savich to join his unit in Washington, D.C. Savich sees something special in Hammersmith, an almost preternatural instinct for tracking criminals. While on his way to D.C., Hammersmith plans to visit his sister, Delsey, a student at Stanislaus School of Music in Maestro, Virginia. Before he arrives, he gets a phone call that Delsey has been found naked and unconscious, lying in a pool of blood, after a wild party. The blood isn’t hers - so to whom does it belong? Griffin must protect Delsey, but from whom?

There were two complete, rather flat stories going on at the same time and it was distracting to continually switch back and forth between them. It didn't have the intrigue and surprises that I have come to expect from Catherine Coulter. There was no excitement or anticipation. The narration was rather boring and that is unusual for most of Audible's offerings. It was a disappointment because I was excited about reading this new selection.

Justin and Libby Denbe have the kind of life you’d find in the pages of a glossy magazine: A beautiful 14-year-old daughter. A gorgeous brownstone on a tree-lined street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. A great marriage, admired by all. A perfect life. When investigator Tessa Leone arrives at the crime scene in the foyer of the Denbes’ home, she finds scuff marks on the floor and a million tiny pieces of bright green Taser confetti. The family appears to have been abducted.

What a great book. It caught me up in the story on the first page and I was obsessed with finishing it. There were so many twists and turns to the plot that you just weren't able to guess what the outcome was going to be. Not until the last page did I have my answers! I am an avid reader and have read Lisa Gardner in the past but she has outdone herself with this one. People who read a lot are hard to surprise but she got me good with Touch & Go. If you want a read that you can't bear to pause, then give this one a try.

A great story with lots of suspense and action. I love a good, long book and although I enjoyed Plum Island, there were a few instances where I felt the details of some scenes went on and on. But it was still enjoyable and I have to say that I liked the main character, John Cory very much.

For Annie Barnes, going home to Middle River means dealing with truths long hidden. But it is a journey she knows she must take if she is to put to rest, once and for all, her misgivings about her mother's recent death. To an outsider, Middle River is a picture-perfect New Hampshire town. But Annie grew up there, and she knows all its secrets - just like her idol, Grace Metalious, author of the infamous novel Peyton Place, which laid a small town's sexual secrets bare for all the world to see.

After a rather slow beginning, the book picked up and became a good read, which is what I expect of Barbara Delinsky. As always, the story was good although the ending was a little less imaginative than some of her other books. Still, I like the way you always learn so much about her topic as you read.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

There wasn't very much meat to this story. Nora Roberts is usually a master of the story but it was a very shallow and predictable read. There wasn't a lot of substance to it at all. It should have been more complex with a little bit of surprise in it. It was just like the second part of the Bride Quartet and I suspect parts 3 and 4 will be similar

If you’ve listened to books by Nora Roberts before, how does this one compare?

I will read anything Nora Roberts writes because I know I won't be disappointed but this wasn't up to par at all. It didn't have any of the suspense or surprises that normally characterize her books.

Which character – as performed by Emily Durante – was your favorite?

None were outstanding. All of the characters were likable but predictable and boring.

Do you think Vision in White needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

As this was the first of four parts, I think that if all parts had been combined into one book with a little more plot and substance, it would have been much better.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it was a great story and all of its twists and turns made it hard to put down.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

As always with Norah Roberts, the plot is full of little side roads that makes you want to continue on and on. It wa sso very hard to find a stopping point.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When she finally told her story to the sheriff

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the mom got her new dog

    Any additional comments?

It was a great read. I like happy endings and for me, reading is an escape from the day to day toils of life. I want entertainment. I don't want to have to look for hidden meanings and symbolism. I want to just enjoy a good story that holds my attention. And this one did!
