Ross Jenkins, Art Mueller, and Morris Abrams are not your average high-school students. While other kids are cruising around in their cars or playing ball, this trio, known as the Galileo Club, is experimenting with rocket fuels. Art's uncle, the nuclear physicist Dr. Donald Cargraves, offers them the opportunity of a lifetime: to construct and crew a rocket that will take them to the moon. But there are those who don't share their dream and who will stop at nothing to keep their rocket grounded.

Ellen Anthony says: "A science fiction classic"
    "Boyscouts in space"
    Overall

I love RAH, and cannot poke holes in his rich scientific mind, but you cannot fire an M1 Garand or any other rifle or pistol on the face of the moon. This is why SciFi always has laser guns. Other than that, it reminded me of the TV series "Salvage 1" from the 80's, a real pleasant read.

For teenager Bill Lerner, who lives with his widower father in the City of Southern California, overpopulation has so constricted the food supplies that they must follow a strict caloric ration, and the crowded and starving civilization has become embattled. Sound familiar? Bill's solution is to emigrate to the colony Ganymede, on Jupiter's third moon. There, a motley crew of pioneers tries, with varying success, to forge a life-sustaining environment.

    Mike says: "Thoroughly enjoyable"
    "Another brilliant but short book"
    Overall

I love this book, however, it seems like one of his younger-audience books. A great listen though.

Lazarus Long, the main protagonist and Heinlein's alter ego, is so in love with life he refuses to die. Born in 1916, he lives through multiple centuries. Time Enough for Love is the telling of his journey, lovingly detailed, through a vast and magnificent timescape of centuries and worlds.

Frederick says: "Content Wonderful - Audio Product Dubious"
    "His finest work ever."
    Overall

This book is fantastic. It has my favorite character (from Cat that walks through walls), Laz Long.
It got kinda creepy at the end with overtones of Oedipus, but still solid and engaging. He could have skipped the 2 hours on DNA and Cloning, but still solid. I want to meet Lapis and Lorili.

Dan Davis, an electronics engineer, had finally made the invention of a lifetime: a household robot that could do almost anything. Wild success was within reach, but then Dan's life was ruined. In a plot to steal his business, his greedy partner and greedier fiancée tricked him into taking the "long sleep": suspended animation for 30 years.

    K. Lange says: "One of Heinlein's Best"
    "Pulled up the handbrake"
    Overall

This book was great, but like most of RAH (does anyone share my opinion this man had ADHD?), he pulls the handbrake on a richly developed storyline.
I love the characters, I love the story and attention to detail. Read it, but have your seatbelt on so the dash doesn't hit you when he locks the brakes up.

The Green Hills of Earth is a collection of short stories from one of the masters of science fiction who has held readers spellbound for over 30 years. This collection includes "Delilah and the Space-Rigger," "Space-Jockey," "The Long Watch," "Gentlemen Be Seated," "The Black Pits of Luna," "It's Great to Be Back," "' - We Also Walk Dogs,'" "Ordeal in Space," "The Green Hills of Earth," and "Logic of Empire."

ShySusan says: "His best short story collection"
    "Great shorts, very enlightening"
    Overall

I love each of these stories, especially the last, they are all little stand-alone gems, very rich and satisfying.

  • Podkayne of Mars

Podkayne Fries, a smart and determined maid of Mars, has just one goal in life: to become the first female starship pilot and rise through the ranks to command deep-space explorations. So when she is offered a chance to join her diplomatic uncle on an interstellar journey to distant Earth via Venus, it's a dream come true - even if her only experience with diplomacy is handling her brilliant but pesky younger brother, Clark.

Jack Ketterer says: "A Smart Kid"
    "What happened."
    Overall

This book should have been called "The incalculable Clark" as it had more to do with Podkayne's brother Clark than it did "Poddy". RAH masterfully builds a lush environment, then fails to fill it with any substance. My first disappointment from RAH.

  • Citizen of the Galaxy

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 57 mins)
    • By Robert A. Heinlein
    • Narrated By Lloyd James
    Overall
    (1117)
    Performance
    (512)
    Story
    (514)

Citizen of the Galaxy takes place far in the future, when the human race has spread out to colonize other planets. In a slave market in the capital of Jubbul and the Nine Worlds, an auctioneer announces, "Lot 97. A boy." Slavery is commonplace in Jubbul, and the sight of the ragged, starving boy, Thorby, on the auction block is not unusual. What does puzzle bystanders and Thorby himself is his purchase by crippled Baslim, the beggar who sits every day in a corner of the marketplace.

    L. says: "One of Heinlein's best"
    "Pleasant yet prone to "serendipity""
    Overall

I love this story, it is richly built, and RAH leaves no stone unturned. However, it seems as though Thorby lives a very charmed life, and very little ill befalls him save for slavery. The book ended abruptly, as do most RAH books, leading me to believe that he might have suffered from ADHD.
