The book is made to be listened to. Zelazny's books are narratives, told by the main character. It's like sitting with Corwyn as he is telling his story.
Off the top of my head, I would say Tolkien's Ring saga. Those books also set an atmosphere where magic is natural and characters are larger than life.
As in all of the first five books, the voice of the book is Corwyn's. He is my favorite, although I am kind of partial to Fiona, as well. She is one of the strongest female characters in the books.
Yes, the plot is intricate, full of twists and surprises. It is hard to break off the story.th
The Stainless Steel Rat, "Slippery" Jim DeGris is one of my all-time favorite characters. This book is later in the series. The first book Harrison wrote was "The Stainless Steel Rat". Then, in the course of writing the series, Harrison wrote several "pre-quels" to the first book. So, the first book in Jim DeGris' time line is "A Stainless Steel Rat is Born".
Inskipp is my favorite character he plays. I always thought Inskipp should have a gravelly voice. He does the female characters very well also, they sound real.
This is book 2 of the Apprentice Adept series. The others are: "Split Infinity" and "Juxaposition". This trilogy is the stronger story line ing the series.
Yes. In fact, I listened to "Juxaposition" in one setting.
This is a wonderful trilogy! I first read it as a Science Fiction Book Club offering, in college. I was fastinated with the Game Computer Annex. I loved hearing it again on Audible.com. It is a good choice for listening because the point-of-view is first person narrative. It is like the main character is telling you the story.
The epic style of the Belgeriad story lends itself to be read aloud. Stories are meant to be told.
It is a great saga in the old style, like Lord of the Rings.
He has a great vocal range and apparently researches the characters to determine their vocal style. He moves seamlessly between styles when reading dialog. His insight into the characters brings them to life, like a great actor would in a film.
