Abby has just arrived in Summerville, Ohio, with her placid Newfoundland, Bowser. She's reluctantly inherited her grandmother's coffee shop, but it's not long before she's brewing up trouble in the form of magical baked goods and steaming up her life with an exasperating college professor. And then there's Daisy, a Web-code writer, and her hyperactive Jack Russell, Bailey. Her tightly wound world spins out of control when she discovers the chaos within and meets a mysterious dog trainer.

i like jennifer crusie, so i bought the book. as other reviewers stated, i would ask for a refund. it was hard to follow: dogs talking and a god coming to life. confusing and not enjoyable. the fun in the fantasy eluded me. i just found the description of the book misleading. it should be updated to tell more about these strange events and be called science fiction. i am not even 1/3 through it yet, but i will finish it, since i paid for it. i have never before wanted to write a review to prevent others from wasting money. this is a first for me. can somone credit me for this book???

The owner is her father, Lucky Shaughnessy, a gregarious, three-times divorced charmer with Donald Trump hair who is obsessed with all things Italian.

Garlic and Sapphires is Ruth Reichl's riotous account of the many disguises she employs to dine anonymously. There is her stint as Molly Hollis, a frumpy blond with manicured nails and an off-beige Armani suit that Ruth takes on when reviewing Le Cirque. The result: her famous double review of the restaurant: first she ate there as Molly; and then as she was coddled and pampered on her visit there as Ruth, New York Times food critic.

i love hearing about food and restaurants, so this is just perfect! there are fabulous descriptions of places in NYC - tastes and textures of each restaurant's food. you get to hear how some people are given better service than others, depending on our author's disguises. the book makes you want to savor your food more, hold it in your mouth - like good wine, and really enjoy what you eat. it also gives insight you what some restaurant servers may be thinking when they wait on you and the inner workings of some kitchens! i did not want it to end, so i plan to read ruth's previous 2 books. enjoy -- this is entertaing, informative and fun.
