"Perfomance weak"
Good story . .unfortunately the reader made the female lead sound like a whiney 17 year old. His men's voice were either goofy or gruff. . .This would probably be a lot better with a different reader. . . at times I felt like I was listening to a book written for very young adults.
"Amazing Mind Flip"
There are so many u-turns in this story, I found myself shaking my head in disabelief. It is so beautifully written and performed. Stick with it, it takes a chapter to get into the story but well worth the wait. The readers were absolutely amazing.
"Not much joy"
Being from Louisiana, I enjoy James Lee Burke. This is one of his angrier books. Even Molly gets mad in this one. If you are a fan of past books, you will enjoy it. I might have to sit back and digest it some more before I decide it's placement in "best of Dave".
"A Lot of Anger"
I kept waiting to a leveling off period of where the characters were not angry with each other. I ended up feeling sorry for everyone for so much loss.
"Muddled through this one . ."
John, your editor didn't show up on this one. . .and neither the action and clarity of plot. Two many characters and subplots . . However, the last two chapters were vintage Davenport . . but btw, (spoiler alert) do you really think Letty would have just walked by Sam's room and shut the door with gunman in the house?
"Good Science Fiction for Young Adults Plus"
I enjoyed this book. Interesting young adult novel. A little muddy in parts but worth the listen if you like Sci-Fi. Thoughtful concepts on aging and the chase for eternal youth.
"Almost didn't buy it because of reviews of sound"
Love the story . .love the writer . .and didn't want poor sound quality to ruin it.. took a chance and it was O.K. . .however, there is no excuse for Achilles's name to be mispronounced continually in the second half . . . . where was the producer? He is not a minor character in the story. It is tolerable only because you know you want to hear the story to continue the series . .but I can't believe this version was approved for production with such glaring errors . .sad.
"One of the Best"
Very, Very good. This one kept me edgy and worried till the end. One of the best I have listened to all year.
"So wanted this to be good . ."
I kept on waiting for this to become a five star for me . . .The characters are not as devoloped as other Follet works and there are too many story lines. It was not smooth and it felt in need of a good editor near the end. I'm hoping the rest of the trilogy is better . .
"Vulgarity To The EXTREME"
The writer cannot get past 1 minute without using the F word or other vulgarities....I don't consider myself a prude . . . I am a fan of Pulp Fiction! I'm surprised the Audio found a clip for the listener to hear that did not have bad words in it. I tried to get past the "F" word but then his use of Sh*t plus the "C" word involving sex with his lover finally did me in. There may be a story in there somewhere but the obscene language is extremely distracting. A BIG disappointment since Audible has chosen to showcase it this month. I asked for and received my credit back for the first time ever.
