I had trouble with the story jumping back and forth in time. I made it hard to follow. I just could never get into the storyline and wasn't really sure what the point was. I got really tired of all the OCD. I understand it, but didn't want to keep listening to it over and over.
It was fine. I loved the accent.
This wasn't bad. A little depressing to me. It seemed nothing ever went right for Pickett and his family. This wasn't a favorite, and if it had been the first I read I'm not sure I would have continued the series. But of course, now I have to keep reading to see what happens to Joe next.
I was excited to see this series by Robert McCammon. I was hooked on his previous books. Swan Song and Stinger were well worn paperbacks in my collection. I can't say I felt the same about this one. This story was very long. Longer than it needed to be I think. I would have probably enjoyed an edited version of this much more.
The narrator could sometimes be distracting as well. Sometimes he seemed to fit in perfectly and at other times the voice seemed to be completely off the mark.
I haven't completely discounted getting the 2nd book in the series to see if it improves but I can't say for sure I'll keep reading them.
It was good enough to keep me engaged on a long trip, which is all I ask from my audio books. The story moved quickly and the plot wasn't so complicated I would get confused if I zoned out while listening (which tends to happen when I'm driving).
The narration was fine, other than occasionally the male voices seemed a little weird. Too macho sounding.
Probably. The story was good, although a little predictable.
I've only listened to one other Tana French. The first one took me awhile to get into but enjoyed it once I did.
I really liked the reader on this one. You were able to distinguish the voices well and he was easy to understand.
If you're looking for a general lesson on ecological systems, then this book might be for you. If you're looking for a story with a plot, then skip this. Oddly enough, although there was no story at all, I ended up listening to the whole thing, (maybe hoping something would happen?)
Two stars may be a little harsh. When I first started listening I really had a problem with the narration, but as it went on, it kind of grew on me. I don't think I'd want to listen to her narrate books other than her own, but at least as the writer she knew what inflections she wanted.
Disappointment. As a scientist it was nice to see someone extolling the virtues of predator ecology, organic farming, and conserving species, but I would have preferred to have it wrapped in a story that had a point.
The build up was good, the story was entertaining and kept me guessing the whole way. The ending ruined the whole book. It was like the last few chapters were written by a completely different person.
The plot was good. There were a few unbelievable coincidences but for the most part it was a good storyline.
The narrator needs to work on her male voices. It kind of broke up the flow when she switched to a male because it really sounded like a female trying to sound male. When it was narration or female voices she did fine.
This book definitely kept me hanging on and wanting to drive around to listen. Fortunately I had lots of driving to do for work and could listen to it all in just a few days.
It's great to be back to the Alvarez and Pescoli storyline. I've really enjoyed this series.
I was eager to get this after listening to Divergent. Maybe my expectations were too high. I just couldn't get into it as much as the first one. I found my attentions wondering so much I'd have to go back and relisten which rarely happened with the first book. I'm still holding out hope that the 3rd book will tie everything together and bring the whole storyline together.
Loved this story. I couldn't stop listening. Fortunately I was on a long road trip and it kept me engaged the entire trip. The narrator did an awesome job. Her voices were believable and even with male voices it was easy to "see" the characters. I loved hearing the backstory and Will and Amanda's lives. I've already recommended this book to several friends.
