"Soul Stirring Story of Overcoming Oppression!"
This was an excellent story of struggle, strength and ultimate success. Although classified as fiction, it depicts real life stories of what individuals faced (and are still facing to some degree) in everyday life in the south back in the 60's. But the best part is how creatively the characters are depicted as they worked together to overcome the oppression they had grown accustom to, but longed (and worked even harder) to escape.
Favorite Character - Minnie...so real, so complex, so...Minnie
If I could take one of the characters from the book out to dinner, it would be Abeline...she was such a woman of quiet strength and dignity...even in the face of Oppression...aka Hilly Hollbrook.
Abeline is the type of woman from whom you could learn valuable life lessons, just by sitting across the table from her having
