Excellent book and narration. I enjoyed the story and found the characters well developed and quite interesting.
For those with an interest in the German invasion into Russia - you'll thoroughly enjoy this compelling tale. I didn't find the language or sexual discussions to be offensive at all.
What a great story about Teddy Roosevelt. The writing was excellent and the narrator did an excellent job. Hard to believe this is a true story - really provides some depth of character around one of our most interesting presidents. This is the second book by Candice Millard that I've listened to and they are both very well done. The book will take you on a wonderful journey.
I've read or listened to most of the Reacher series and anxiously await new additions. While the book does provide good background on Reacher's military past and the Special Investigative unit, I found the story itself is boring and slow paced. Not much action or intrigue to hold my interest. Not to give anything away, but the culprits seem like a bumbling group of Keystone Cops - you're left wondering how they could be such a formidable opponent.
Hope the next one is better...
Really loved the first book (Daemon) - the mix of technology and sociology was fascinating. Based on the other reviews, I couldn't wait to listen to Freedom. Unfortunately, I found Freedom to be a big letdown. Not much in the way of any new technology and the political agenda/point of view was over whelming the story. Just didn't do it for me.
I've read or listened to many of the Preston and Child books. This is the first one that left me feeling cheated. This was already a sequel to another book so I was prepared to jump into the story. What I wasn't expecting and didn't appreciate was the way it leaves you hanging at the end. Obviously another book is coming - just didn't need that much of this story line. Two would have been fine, three is one too many. How many more times can the main character be mortally wounded but recover with no ill effects two chapters later. Time to move on.
Truly enjoyed this story - found it well narrated and well written. The story backdrop is New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and while the book deals with difficult issues, I never found it too preachy.
Found the story quite engaging - a good "read".
