The science fiction classic that coined the term "time machine" and is generally credited with the popularization of the concept of time travel. A must listen for any fan of science fiction!

Would you listen to The Time Machine again? Why?

It is great to listen to these books that you really only heard about or saw movies about. Now to listen for the first time you get the "message" of the book as opposed to the movie. If you expect to get the movie in Audible form ... forget it. It is re-markedly different.

What about Alan Munro’s performance did you like?

Great voice. Enhances story and doesn't detract like some performers

In a time long forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons off balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. As the cold returns, sinister forces are massing beyond the protective wall of the kingdom of Winterfell. To the south, the king's powers are failing, with his most trusted advisor mysteriously dead and enemies emerging from the throne's shadow.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really well spent, I had to quit listening after a while. The story is just too complicated to get into. You need to go back over and over again to figure out who's who.

This book is best read in book form.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Never got that far. And knowing it was a long series based on the TV show ... I gave up.

    Any additional comments?

Best in book form ... not audio book

What did you love best about Inferno?

I love his incorporation of actual historical events and actual places you can go visit

What was one of the most memorable moments of Inferno?

    The trip through the museum

    Any additional comments?

This one had a particularly good twist without knowing who the actual culprit is until the end. And it was a good one.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes because it is a start to a great series, Patterson seems to get wound up with this book and really gets going with the subsequent books. While they REALLY don't depend on each other it is good to start with this one.

In Amped, people are implanted with a device that makes them capable of superhuman feats. The powerful technology has profound consequences for society, and soon a set of laws is passed that restricts the abilities - and rights - of "amplified" humans. On the day that the Supreme Court passes the first of these laws, 29-year-old Owen Gray joins the ranks of a new persecuted underclass known as "amps." Owen is forced to go on the run, desperate to reach an outpost in Oklahoma where, it is rumored, a group of the most enhanced amps may be about to change the world - or destroy it.

Where does Amped rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This ranks at the top of the list. I like the combination of technology and eternal issues like discrimination.

Have you listened to any of Robbie Daymond’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Excellent verbal performance. I like it when the voice enhances and doesn't distract. The performer should disappear as you get lost in the story. Robbie does this.

The opening episode begins on Trantor, capital of the Galactic Empire, with the meeting of Seldon and Dornick, their trial, and their exile to Terminus. The action then jumps forward 50 years, to the first Seldon Crisis, where the repercussions of the recent independence of the Four Kingdoms of the Periphery are being felt on Terminus, and are handled by the first Mayor, Salvor Hardin....

Would you try another book from the authors and/or the narrators?

I would try one more just to see if this one was a fluke. I absolutely could not listen to the performance with ear buds because the swings in volume were too much to handle. At one time you could barely hear and then the segue music was so loud you had to pull the buds out of your ears.

    TERRIBLE sound mixing!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Foundation Trilogy (Dramatized)?

I never made it through the whole thing because of the sound issues.

  • The Island of Doctor Moreau

A shipwrecked man rescued by a passing boat is left on the island home of Doctor Moreau, who creates sentient beings from animals via vivisection. The novel deals with a number of philosophical themes, including pain and cruelty, moral responsibility, human identity, and human interference with nature. H.G. Wells at his best.

If you could sum up The Island of Doctor Moreau in three words, what would they be?

Fascinating look at mankind through the eyes of the Doctor. Not so much about the animals as it is about the men involved.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Island of Doctor Moreau?

    The Pain of the Puma

What does Alan Munro bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Cool accent and good expression

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The touching of the little animals

    Any additional comments?

Not so much like the movie, and old time view of mankind through a "Silence of the Lambs" type of suspense.
