Patrick Taylor’s devoted readers and listeners know Doctor Fingal Flahertie O’Reilly as a pugnacious general practitioner in the quaint Irish village of Ballybucklebo. Now Taylor turns back the clock to give us a portrait of the young Fingal - and show us the pivotal events that shaped the man he would become. In the 1930s, fresh from a stint in the Royal Navy Reserve, and against the wishes of his disapproving father, Fingal O’Reilly goes to Dublin to study medicine.

What did you love best about A Dublin Student Doctor?

The story is so rich with detail.

Would you listen to another book narrated by John Keating?

Not sure... I felt like he was just reading the text...very sing-song, without meaning.

In January 1945, in the waning months of World War II, a small group of people begin the longest journey of their lives: an attempt to cross the remnants of the Third Reich, from Warsaw to the Rhine if necessary, to reach the British and American lines.

Among the group is 18-year-old Anna Emmerich, the daughter of Prussian aristocrats. There is her lover, Callum Finella, a 21-year-old Scottish prisoner of war who was brought from the stalag to her family's farm as forced labour.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Historical fiction fascinates me, but when written so beautifully, it allows this time period to become a part of the reader. I have a relative who lived through this particular time, and this book brought me a little glimpse of what he must have lived through himself. Loved this book.

What about Mark Bramhall’s performance did you like?

He's so expressive and his voice has great depth and clarity. I love listening to him.

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

    Story
What made the experience of listening to The Night Circus the most enjoyable?

The story itself is enchanting, but the narator has transormed this story into an absolutely amazing experience. Jim Dale has a delicious voice, and I'm tempted to listen to the story again just to hear it! But really, the book is a work of art.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Widget and Poppet

What does Jim Dale bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love the voices he uses for each character - they are so distinct from each other, and he's incredibly expressive. I didn't want it to end.
