"History should be taught like this"
I think the characters of this series are so believable. I felt like shouting at them at pivitol points to get out of a certain location, like the Pearl Harbor segment or the Russians coming into Berlin.
The most shocking is the part where the German soldier arrested a gay restaurant owner and his lover and what happened at the prison.
I think Winter of the World is aptly named.
This book made me want to get ahold of a high school history book and follow along with the timeline.
I think of my parents, who were lucky to be in the stateside military. But what the world must of seemed like to them. Wish they were here to discuss this book with.
"A must read before you can vote in 2012 election"
I was blind.....
I love that this book was published in 1957 but it applies to today even more than in 1957. It is a very long book and I will read it again, and again. Because that its such a valuable story. If you think capitalism is evil, you must read. If you feel envy for the rich, if you feel that doctors should work because they love helping people, if you feel that we should be more equal...............READ this book.
U.S. Democracy 2016?
"C.J. Box what did you do???O"
I will only read a Joe Pickett book, apparently C.J. Box can only create a sympathetic/lovable character in the Joe Pickett character.
I would rather go to the dentist than to listen to this book again.
"Joe goes to Yellowstone"
How does C.J. Box manage to write a book about gruesome murders and still make you want to visit Yellowstone all in one chapter? Someday, I hope to visit Yellowstone and would definately re-listen to this book again so I could take notes on what places to visit.
Joe feels so much like a living person to me that I almost hesitate to finish the series. It will feel like an old friend has gone away.
I like that Joe and Marybeth are able to put the past behind them. Joe is so honorable, I hate to see him being tempted by a woman. But his is also very human.......
Maybe some day Joe can meet up with Nevada Barr's Forest Park Ranger??? Just a thought.
"Recommend this to all my friends!"
Best of 2011!
This book brings you back to 1958-63 in vivid detail. It feels like you are sitting on the edge of your seat for the entire book.
Craig did an amazing job.
This would have to be a mini series because 2 hours would not be enough to do it justice. Tag line : The past might change you more than you could change it.
Buy this book and call in sick for the next two days!
