Dave was in first grade when his unstable alcoholic mother began attacking him. Until he was in fifth grade, she starved, beat, and psychologically ravaged her son. Eventually denying even his identity, Dave's mother called him an "it" instead of using his name. Relentlessly, she drove him to the brink of death before authorities finally stepped in. With faith and hope, Dave grew determined to survive. He also knew that he needed to share his story.

What made the experience of listening to A Child Called 'It' the most enjoyable?

I'm not sure enjoyable is the best term for such a dark experience. It's an important book on a serious subject. It deeply affected me. I had a physical reaction to some of the horror described in this book. And yet its a book I would recommend to anyone who could stomach it.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This book was like a REALLY BAD B horror movie. Story was original and would have been 3 or 4 stars if the dialogue had been more mature. But this struck me as something sprung from the mind of a fifteen year old. I would recommend it to a much younger audience if it was not for the mature content. Not a very satisfying read.

What was most disappointing about Allen Dusk’s story?

I felt the characters and much of the dialogue lacked dimension and maturity. The only thing mature about this book was the often unnecessary graphic sexual content.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Rose Caraway?

The narrator used did not have much range or inflection.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. It could have been a good book in the hands of say Seth Grahame-Smith or David Wong.

Just days before a massive exhibition opens at the popular New York Museum of Natural History, visitors are being savagely murdered in the museum's dark hallways and secret rooms. Autopsies indicate that the killer cannot be human. But the museum's directors plan to go ahead with a big bash to celebrate the new exhibition, in spite of the murders. Museum researcher Margo Green must find out who - or what - is doing the killing.

Would you try another book from Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child and/or David Colacci?

    I dont think so.

What was most disappointing about Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child ’s story?

The dialogs between characters aeemed the most improbable thing about this story. And that's a strange thing when you are talking about fiction. So many times I founs myself rolling my eyes because the characters were so long winded about simple things and I felt that when there is a genetic throwback trying to get at your brains a little brevity might be called for. The writing was very counter intuitive and it prevented me from enjoying this otherwise intriguing storyline.

Did David Colacci do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

I believe that I have listened to his work before. He is decent but not great.

What character would you cut from Relic?

Dagosta added very little. Or kawakita

Would you recommend The Selection to your friends? Why or why not?

I would recommend to my daughters in about 10 years or so. I chose this book because it was described as similar to "Hunger Games". However, while HG was written for a younger audience it had appeal to for adults as well. I would not recommend this book for adults, it's definitely a teen, or young adult book. It lacked maturity.

    Any additional comments?

It was a decent story and was well read, but it was not my cup of tea.

  • The Importance of Being Earnest: Free Performance

This final play from the pen of Oscar Wilde is a stylish send-up of Victorian courtship and manners, complete with assumed names, mistaken lovers, and a lost handbag. Jack and Algernon are best friends, both wooing ladies who think their names are Ernest, "that name which inspires absolute confidence." Wilde's effervescent wit, scathing social satire, and high farce make this one of the most cherished plays in the English language.

The Pak are headed towards the Fleet of Worlds, having destroyed entire planets in their wake.

    Overall

As the first Niven/Lerner book I've picked up, I have to say I was a bit lost. I could not get into it. With this particular series maybe it's important you start from the beginning. In my experience, serials are designed so you can pick up any one and though there's background info missing, the book still stands alone well. This one just seemed too alien and I had the impression I've missed too much of the story to fully understand the plot. Other reviewers seem to have been a fan of the continuing series and have a different view. But if you haven't read others I wouldn't recommend starting with this one.

To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare, woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan. Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen, and in another by her profound connection to werewolf Jacob Black, she has endured a tumultuous year of temptation, loss, and strife to reach the ultimate turning point.
