Lake Wobegon is in a frenzy of preparations for the Fourth of July. The town is dizzy with anticipation - until they hear of Clint's ambition to run for Congress. They know about his episodes with vodka sours, his rocky marriage, and his friendship with the 24-year-old who dresses up as the Statue of Liberty for the parade and may be buck naked beneath her robes. In Keillor's words, "It is Lake Wobegon as you imagined it - good loving people who drive each other crazy."

Christopher says: "Great for a long country drive."
    "Terrible."

Would you try another book from Garrison Keillor and/or Garrison Keillor?

I love tales from lake woebegone, but this was terrible. I finished it because I had paid for it, but it was not the small town America that I was hoping to read about. It was about infidelity and destruction of the family. Terrible.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is an awesome book! Definitely listen as the narrators accent helps the story take flight. I listened and read at the same time. Glad I did. It was one of those books you'll always remember fondly.

What about Jeff Woodman’s performance did you like?

His accent helped me hear Pi. It was like listening to a friend tell me his story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

There is a film and I can't wait to see it now!

    Any additional comments?

This book starts a bit slow. Stick with it. The info you learn about zoos in the beginning is important later on. Keep listening. You will be glad you listened to this amazing book.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The best book club you’ve never heard of – but will be eager to join, courtesy of a full cast of true characters. January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she's never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb....

Kent says: "MUCH better than I ever expected! Give it a try!"

Where does The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of the best audiobooks I've listened to. It is funny and touching and the different narrators for each character adds to each characters story.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

I truly loved each character. They are like friends I'd love to know. Each character had their own voice, their own story, and their own charm.

    Any additional comments?

I was reluctant to read this book. I thought it was going to be boring. But it was a bookclub book so I read it. I loved it. It was so charming. It was heart warming and sad and hilarious all at the same time. Give this book a chance. It will be well worth your time and money.

  • The House of Silk: A Sherlock Holmes Novel

Sherlock Holmes is the greatest detective in literary history. For the first time since the death of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a new Holmes story has been sanctioned by his estate, whetting the appetites of fans everywhere. Information about the book will be revealed as deliberately as Holmes himself would unravel a knotty case, but bestselling novelist and Holmes expert Anthony Horowitz is sure to bring a compelling, atmospheric story to life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Holmes? Watson? How do you choose? They have a bromance that is so entertaining!

What does Derek Jacobi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator sounds just like I expect Watson to sound. He reads a bit slow, so I listened to it at 1.5 speed and it was perfect. Great narration brings the book to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. It's a bit long and complicated, as are all Sherlock Holmes books. I listened to a chapter or two at a time.

    Any additional comments?

If you are a fan of Doyle's irrepressible Holmes and Watson, you'll love this book. Hopkins captures Doyle's style exactly. This book was the first Holmes book sanctioned by the Doyle foundation since his death. It is easy to see why when you read it. It is exactly as Holmes/Watson were being penned by Doyle himself.

Please note: this is classically written Holmes. So it is a more intellectual listen. If you have never read Holmes, try a free version to see if you like the style. If you like that, you'll love this.

Is there really such thing as a lucky charm? The hero of Nicholas Sparks's new novel believes he's found one in the form of a photograph of a smiling woman he's never met, but who he comes to believe holds the key to his destiny. The chain of events that leads to him possessing the photograph and finding the woman pictured in it is the stuff of love stories only a master such as Sparks can write.

What did you love best about The Lucky One?

I fell in love with Logan...what a guy! Like all thee story Sparks books I read, listened to, or watched movies of, this is a love story. While the romance was fairly predictable, I enjoyed getting to watch Beth and Logan fall in love. I think most girls want a Logan to find them...a guy who listens and understands without being pushy or controlling.
Also like all of my Sparks experiences, this one has a sad twist ending. I have always complained that Mr. Sparks kills off a main character in every book. Well, he continues his streak, but as always, I was still shocked at exactly how the played out.
Good book, good narration. Worth your time and money.

Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update," before "Sarah Palin," Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told....

What made the experience of listening to Bossypants the most enjoyable?

Tina Fey is a comedic rock star! She is easy to listen to, like your spending time with a close friend, only funnier!

What other book might you compare Bossypants to and why?

    Another funny listen is Ellen's

Have you listened to any of Tina Fey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first Tina Fey book..I don't watch her shows, but have seen her on SNL and in movies. I wasn't a fan before...I am now!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed and laughed. I'm sure people in the cars around me thought I was crazy, what with the way I was smiling and giggling as I commuted to and from work!
