I very much enjoyed the story and generally enjoy audiobooks. However, in this particular recording every few seconds you can year the narrator swallowing her spit. Its very disgusting and distracting. Because of it I found it very difficult to finish the book. Who ever edited this book should have done a better job, a narrator cannot speak & swallow at the same time, it would have been easy enough but time consuming to edit out the swallowing noise.
Ugh, the sad back story of Roger's parents. It neatly wraps up that story line, but I do hope the story will be expanded upon in the next book. It was a woefully short story from Ms. Gabaldon haha.
This is a fabulous book. I'm only about half way through it and am totally thrilled I bought it. A story about a stranded astronaut with a sarcastic, witty sense of humour. Two of my favorite things, sarcasm & science fiction. I can't wait to finish out the book and hear how it ends.
This book sounds like it has it all...but it falls as flat as a batch of bread dough that doesn't rise. I bought this one after listening to The Help, it was an Audible recommendation. Its way off base. Yes it has segregation and violence...but its a whole different kind of racial love beating the odds. Its okay on its own merits...just okay.
I certainly enjoyed meandering through the secret, magical streets of London. Meeting random, creative individuals and learning that doors are often more than just their name. Seedy undergrounds and mole people of New York have nothing on some of these characters. Some of the events feel like they're just dropped onto the page with out any lead up, but isn't that the joy of writing a fantasy novel? Making a world to fit your own ideas and not what anyone else dictates, its good stuff.
Its a story about a woman who goes looking for her good friend & coworker who is lost in the jungle. Along the way we meet a tough old bird who's exterior is peeled back to reveal a lost, tender woman who really can love. We meet our heroine after she's lost in the maze of her own mind for most of the story as she confronts her own desire to procreate. And we also meet silly, stereotypical natives. Its a long, grueling story that seems to take forever but in a matter of minutes you've reached the end and yearn for another chapter.
I love this book, I really do. It's like a better, more substantial version of the tv show The Finder. (Its a spin-off from the show Bones) Seriously, listen and enjoy. I'm pretty sure if I find this book in paperback, I'll buy it and actually read it with my eyeballs.
This is a love story that revolves around pink salt, gold, and religion. I really enjoyed the mystery of the story, the setting, and the characters. The only thing I could have done with out was the religious leading man. In fact, I think if you removed all of his Sunday Preacher moments, this book would be even better. Don't think that there is a ton, but its enough to turn a non-religious off while listening. Still, I enjoyed it enough to listen to it twice and intend on using it for my next 6 hour car trip to visit family. And not because its long, but because its a good listen overall.
The story of a woman growing up in a small town with a form of giant-ism. The writer could have done a better job facing the consequences of rape, runaway wives, suicide, and homosexuality. However given that the book is supposed to be more about an ancestors spell book and a physically unconventional woman learning to love herself, its a good listen. I think if we took every opportunity to make hard life lessons into actual lessons, story telling would be considered education not entertainment, and this book is entertaining in a gentle, slow summer breeze kind of way. Easy listening for sure.
Its surprising how much you can come to love a drunk and find faith in humanity again based on his platonic friendship with a runaway/homeless kid. I always enjoy a good fiction beyond the he loves her, she loves him, or the action hero who saves the day, or blah blah blah. If you're looking for a simple, sweet story, this is a good choice.
I liked this book. The synopsis is a little off base I think personally, but I very much enjoyed the weaving of fairytales & mystery.
