This was a very involved book with 3 plots weaving together into what I thought was a wonderfully done novel. It was deep & moving and made me think about many issues. I enjoyed the book and the narrator did a wonderfull job. The characters flowed nicely and I thought the narrator was easy to follow. I will look forward to the next Butch Karp novel as he and his family and their characters and assorted friends are always up to someting interesting.
I was not going to write a review on "The Appeal" but after reading the 2 reviews posted, I had to post a review of my own. If I had not read any other Grisham novels, I would have given this book a better review but I have read them all. The Partner, The Last Juror, A Painted House, The Bleachers, all had a twist of difference from one another. However, this book was "so much fluff" to me. John Grisham can stretch further and dig deeper. I would say this was like an author's 1st novel instead of his most recent out of a list in the double digits being published. "A Time To Kill" set the bar very high. I think a Jr. High english teacher, an U.S. Government teacher, & a Phys. Ed. instructor, could have pulled "The Appeal" together with a deeper character development in an collaborated effort than what I heard here. I am a Grisham fan. I just expected more.
I cannot put words here for a proper review. I don't believe any self proclaimed writer or author or reader could do "Lisey's Story" justice. The only person with the talent to adequately review this story would be Stephen King himself. I step out of this review humbly and relinquish the remainder of my available characters left to the Master. . . The King himself. Thank you for a wonderful spell bound 18 hours and 55 minutes.
This book was wonderful. James Lee Burke has the best way of weaving sights & sounds & smells together that you will wonder in your older yrs if your memories are books you have read or actual events that took place in your life.
Thank you for a wonderfull 12 hrs.
Thomas Holland Rocks!!
This book pulls you in immediately. The people in this book are a pleasure to get to know. I hope Thomas Holland does not take a big vacation now because he should be sent to his room to KEEP ON WRITING!!
If his sense of humor in life is as cool as his sense of humor in writing - He is the life of the party.
I listen to MANY audio books and this one I move to the top of the list. Thank you for the mental stimulation & the belly laughs. My husband kept asking me what I was listening to on my ipod because all he could hear was me sometimes gasping & most of the time laughing as I listened to this story as I worked around the house. Can't wait for the next release!!
