From a hidden enclave in the maze of Tehran, an Iranian scientist who calls himself "Dr. Ali" sends an encrypted message to the CIA. It falls to Harry Pappas to decide if it's for real.

Dr. Ali sends more secrets of the Iranian bomb program to the agency, then panics. He's being followed, but he doesn't know who's onto him, and neither does Pappas. The White House is no help---they're looking for a pretext to attack Tehran. To get his agent out, Pappas turns to a secret British spy team known as "The Increment".

This is a predictable crime / espionage pot boiler made almost unbearable by a narrator who must be getting paid by the hour.
I downloaded it to my ipod and listened to it at double speed. Like this, it sounded normal.
David Ignatious's other books, particularly Blood Money is a much better experience

Detective Dave Robicheaux, his wife Molly and daughter Alafair are vacationing in Montana. But evil, it seems, has followed them into this wild paradise. Someone is stalking Alafair, and Dave begins to suspect that it's a convicted serial killer she interviewed two years ago - even though he’s supposed to be dead. Is Alafair the target of a depraved serial killer, or has she unwittingly crossed paths with a murderous psychopath closer to home?

This was the 11th Audiobook of JLB's that I have listened to. I love the series and remain a fan, even after this. It seems to me that the author had two half-finished books and combined them in a hap-hazard fashion. Characters are not properly described or developed and the story is just plain silly. I hope he retires before he further taints his otherwise magnificent legacy

Mickey Franklin was funny and clever and dangerous. Not anymore, now that a mysterious and beautiful sculptor named Sarah Longmore is accused of shooting him five times. Jack Irish - gambler, cook and cabinet-maker, finder of people who don't want to be found - gets the job of hunting for clues that might save her. In a rainy autumn, with Jack's old flame Linda Hillier on a plane to London, the Saints about to front another season and legendary jockey Harry Strang in pursuit of a dark horse, it's a tricky task.

This is the fourth of the Jack Irish thrillers. Set in Melbourne, Peter Temple paints a picture of the city and it's characters. The dialogue is carefully rationed, with no unnecessary padding or self serving descriptive white noise.
This is a carefully thought out thriller and a fantastic listen. Highly recommended.

When Tim Kearney draws a license plate across the throat of a Hell's Angel, he's pretty much a dead man. It's his third crime and, according to California law, that gives him "life without the possibility of parole". Killing a Hell's Angel also makes him a dead man on any prison yard in California. That's when the DEA makes Kearney an offer: impersonate the late, legendary dope smuggler Bobby Z so that the agency can trade him to Don Huertero, northern Mexico's drug kingpin, for a captured DEA agent.

This was potentially an excellent read. The story is interesting, the author has form. Unfortunately, the book has been abridged so far that it reads like a screenplay and jumps all over the place.

Villani's life is his work. It is his identity, his calling, his touchstone. But now, over a few sweltering summer days, as fires burn across the state and his superiors and colleagues scheme and jostle, he finds all the certainties of his life are crumbling. Truth is a novel about a man, a family, a city. It is about violence, murder, love, corruption, honor and deceit. And it is about truth.

    Evan says: "Masterpiece"
    "wonderful writing on every level"
    Overall

More than just a crime novel, this work is a literary classic. Beleivable characters, supurb plot but best of all, the most creative use of dialogue you could imagine. Temple says as much in a few words as others do in a chapter. Having driven for nearly 4 hours, I parked my car around the corner of my house and sat there listening to the last two hours of this book. Absolutely brilliant
