This is a great book and listening to it was a real treat. I would recommend the book but particularly the audio. It is so enjoyable.
My favorite scenes where in 1962 in Italy. It was great to have the events around the filming of Cleopatra.
I enjoyed the easy transition from the past to present. I was done so well, that I never felt confused. If anything, I hated to leave each story. Both stories are equally endearing.
I loved that it was in Scotland. I could feel as it I was there experiencing all the elements.
No, but I thought narration was perfect
I bought this book on a recommendation from an author I really enjoy. I tried to hang in there but I just got to the point that I didn't care what Old Filth did next. It was just plain boring. It's not good if I keep looking to see if it's almost over. After about the 5th check I decided to give it up.
I must say I really enjoyed this book. It made me laugh and cry. A very thought provoking plot. Made me think about how I would react in similar circumstances.
I felt all the characters were developed beautifully and added to the depth of the story.
I thought the narration was right on as I used the Whispersync option for this book and it was a breeze going from reading to listening.
Just when the stories got interesting the author stopped suddenly and went to the next one? I really didn't get the relationship or purpose between the characters.
The actual turns and twists in each story was interesting but it just took too long to get there.
I'm not sure if it was the narrators or the actual text of the book that made some of the stories so hard to listen to. The Hawaii segment was in this broken English and the British segment was just too much work to understand. Not my favorite listening experience.
I love stories that take place in this historical period.
I choose this book as it was listed as a Maise Dobbs genre. It is that with more suspense but not quite the attachment to the characters. Never the less, I really enjoyed the story and would recommend it.
I really found myself invested in the characters.
It starts out in the present and takes you back to the love story and then brings it back to the present. I really wanted to know how it could have started in Burma and ended in New York.
