Yeap. I personally love sherrilyn Kenyon and think she's one of the best writers in her genre. She's managed to figure out a perfect mixture of Wounded Hero's or Heroine's, action, humor and love. I started with her Dark Hunter books, and now i'm listening to the league books too. Really love this author, and i really love her characters.
The only thing i would say about this book was that the naration could have been a bit better. He used this low, husky, almost whispery voice, which made most his female voices sound a little... eh, strange/forced. i wouldnt say he was BAD, but it did distract me, and i found it hard to concentrate on the story sometimes. though, by the end of the book i was far more used to it and didnt find it as distracting.
Again, he's not a BAD reader, just not perfect for this particular book perhaps.
Shoot, hehe, i really love sway, vick and Dev. Also Omari. hehe, you have to love a book where you feel genuine affection for just about all of the characters!!!
probably one of the last scenes, where a certain bad guy gets demolished. I wont say more then that so i dont ruin the book for others.
lol. "When Alix joined the ships crew, she did so with danger in tow. Good thing Captain Devyn Kell never backs down from a fight. If they work together, they may just find out they have more to fight for then they realized."
i dunno, i'm not the best tagline writer hehee.
Only other comment i have is that if you are even remotely a vampire lover, or greek mythology lover, deffinately check out Kenyon's dark hunter serries. And really any thing else the woman might do. she's insanely talented. i appreciate her work so much!
Print and Audio have different uses. Audio is perfect for doing other things while you listen, it allows you a freedome that print doesnot. So i can't really say one is better then the other.
That said, in this case i might say YES. the biggest downfall of an audio book is the naration. if it is not really spectacular, it can be distracting, make it hard to follow the story, or even turn you off completely. I have now listened to quite a few of Holter Graham's narations and i am really in love with him. He does such a fantastic job, you get imersed in the story, you can follow various characters, and you really enjoy listening to him the entire while.
the naration should ELEVATE the story, and in the case of this production i would say that he did a perfect job of it. i pretty much listened to the entire thing in one or two settings. Great book, great production, really great characters, fantastic author!
I have fallen in love with the men of this universe. All of them are so unique and interesting. I totally want to find one of them for myself :grins:
i always think of this question as "OTHER then the main characters, who is your favorite character and why?" i dunno why, but its how i see this question. Really tho, in this book i would probably say Caillan is my favorite character - and his partner in crime desidaria, is a beautiful, strong, intelligent wonderful woman.
ALL Of Holter Graham's performances that i have had the good luck to listen to have been spectacular. he is VERY talented, and i would absolutely be more likely and more inclined to buy an audio book if i saw his name as the naration.
Three cheers for him, no joke. I hope Sherrilyn kenyon uses him for ALL her future audio books because he is just so very talented. i find it can be difficult for some men to narate "romance" stories cause they have a tendancy to sorta go ultra-husky which if sounding forced can be really distracting, especially when trying to do female voices.
Graham's reading is not forced. A good example is in sherri's books the men tend to do a lot of playful bantering. that "forced huskiness" can make that banter flat, without humor and totally lost on the listening. GRAHAM however, he's so natural. That banter is completely humorous when read by him. nothing is forced, but the characters are easy to tell a part and really enjoyable to listen to. Truly the best reader i've found so far.
It made me laugh more then once. There werent actually that many sad or depressing momens in the books, so no crying. :)
Just that this author and this reader are perfectly matched. i hope they do a ton more together in the future. :)
if you like Sherrilyn kenyon, but have never heard Holter Graham narate before - BUY this book. you won't be disapointed, i promise :)
I duno. For me, at the time, it was. i love being able to do art while i listen to books too, or listen in the car. you have a lot more freedom when you re listening rather then reading. Also the naration was really fantastic. i really like the guy she has chosen to do a lot of her narations.
i wouldn't really compare it. this book is a romantic story but i wouldnt actually call it ROMANCE. As with so many of Keyon's books, the story is adeptly woven and complex throughout many of her books. its so much more then a romance, Honestly, i wouldnt really compare it to any other books. I waited for years to read Ash's story, and i'm so glad i finally got too. I was NOT disapointed!
I dunno, there were just to many to choose a favorite.
Yes, quite a few moments brought taers to my eyes, and made me laugh.Thats what a good book does. And since Sheri has been introducing us to Ash over MANY books, i felt very conected to him during his personal story.
just that this author is worth keeping an eye on. buy and read or listen to all of her books. She's very talented and even people who dont read romance love her work. because her work is not really "romance" its just far more then that. its paranormal fiction at its best :)
i think in our culture, its especially important for books to show young woman how possible and important it is to be strong, self sufficient, and resilient. that was, and still IS my hugest gripe about the twilight serries. A weak, simpering, downright depressing female lead - which sadly god so much attention from our young women :(
this book has a really great female lead. she is so self sufficent, strong, intelligent, fearless, etc. she is a real go getter. i would not hesistate to let my daughter or my most precious little girl friends to read or listen to this book. I will even give it to my 8 year old friend to listen to, because the character reminds me of her. i liked that.
Also, as a writer myself, i was impressed with how she used words to imply and describe events that would not typically be used to do so. When done wrong, taking such liberties with our language can reall destroy a good book, and make you avoid future work by the author. but when done right, it helps to paint the picture and really engages you. she did a lovely job in my opinion.
Besides the main character, who i explained above i really enjoyed and appreciated. i really loved richard. i wish, however, that more had been done with him and hope rhat she will continue with him and Amber in future works. I was somewhat sad by the way the book ended, but i wont give away my reasoning as it could destroy the book for others.
its well worth reading, or listening to.
gosh, i dont really have a favorite scene in this book.
Yea, i had a long car trip with a friend on my way up to the doctors office which was a couple hours away. we started it in the car, and on the way home. We stopped for a meal on our way home and brought the laptop INTO the restaurant and listened to it while we ate, then when i got home i put it back on and listened to it till i fell asleep, woke up and finished it lol. so. yea.
And as an author myself, i am very hard to please. i literally threw the twilight books against the wall. lol. they just pissed me off so much as a strong woman. i did the same with a book i read once where the author used the word "Presently" at least once on each and every single page. and sometimes as many as five times. How does that even make it through the editing process?
i'll read a story thats poorly written if the authors ideal and imagination is strong enough to make up for it. in this case, I cant give this book a full five stars for various reasons, but i really liked it. the idea was solid, main character strong, unique use of language and words and a fun and interesting way at looking at the way magic worked in their world.
My Biggest comment are for those of you wondering what type of SEXUAL CONTENT there is in these books.
Basically, it is completely safe for young children. she hints as sexuality but there is absolutely ZERO sexually explicit material in this book. NONE.
so it IS safe for children.
Unfortunately, i'm a 31 year old woman and for me a book can really never have 5 stars without a little sexuality, and some downright explcitness. i would have really enjoyed the book quite a bit more if she'd have gone into more detail and written it for adults rather then young adults.
But if you look at this book as being written for YOUNG ADULTS - its a great read, it teaches strength to young women, deserves props and appreciation.
just know, if you are an adult and would like some sexually explicit content that you will not find it in this particular book.
I'm a writer myself so maybe i'm hard to impress .... I dunno, i will say that i had a very hard time following this book, my brother and i were stuck in a car together for a very long time with nothing but this to listen to and instead of finishing it we decided to pull over at a wi fi hot spot for the sole purpose of downloading something else (we ended up downloading and listening to enders Game by Orson Scott Card which was utterly fantastic) because this book was so tedious and dull and... poitless. It really is mostly about
Orson Scott Card
I would probably listen to another book read by her, she actually gave a good performance but the story was so tedious it actually dragged on her performance and potential ratings.
The main character... I just really could not get through more then a couple hours of this book. It was so difficult.
Not so much. I wish i could get my credit back for this purchase. Unless you like brittish gossip culture i genuinely have no idea how you COULD get
