"An Enduring Favorite"
I've loved this book since I was a child. The tale centers on being honorable, choosing to do right, and learning to have faith in what you believe in--presented in the most delightful Victorian style prose which demands that you think and pay attention to the narrative. I'm sure I will listen to this audiobook at least as many times as I have read the book--which is a great many times indeed.
"Most delightful story & narration EVER!"
I can't say enough good things about how enjoyable this book was. The writing is imaginative and superb; the narration mesmerizing and delightful. I will listen to this again many times in the future. Can't recommend this book highly enough. Would have given it 10 stars if it had been possible.
"Frightening and compelling"
As an IT worker, I thought the author did a great job making the Daemon scenario plausible. The characters and story were very enjoyable...I wanted more more more at the end, so I'm glad there is a sequel.
Nitpicks: Whoever edited the book missed a few things; every once in awhile, I heard some improper grammar. There is something annoying about the narrator, although I can't quite figure out what it is. However, he does voices very well and the story is so good, I was willing to put my unquantified annoyance aside.
"Stunning"
Took some time for the story to unfold--as is often the case with Banks' books. But he is one of my top 5 favorite authors and I knew it was worth being patient and allowing the story to unfold. I was not disappointed. This is a great story. The narrator is fantastic.
How I wish there were more Iain Banks novels on Audible.
"Grittily Scary"
A terrifying tale, full of the darkness of human souls and the power of love in a gritty, modern setting. Found this book to be absolutely riveting. The narrator does a superb job with the accents and voices for the major characters. Contains mature language and content.
"Outstandingly Funny!"
Written with a perfect blend of insightful facts, droll sarcasm, and superlative wit. I was ready to book passage to Australia to go on my own quirky tour after listening to this account of Mr. Bryson's trip across that continent. Not to be missed.
"Wow. Not to be missed."
Modern, realistic, gritty, sensuous writing. I loved the layers, rich detail, and superb characterization in this story. A fabulous bittersweet story...I could relate to Oscar Wao on many levels....but also to his college roommate--the one telling the story. The narration is excellent. I know I'll listen to this book again. Well worth the price and the time.
"A Delight"
Rambles up and down the history of science in an entertaining and informative way, bringing to life the personalities and human frailties of science celebrities past and present.
I liked this audiobook so much, I'm listening to it again only a month after the first listen. There is a LOT of information presented, so I'm not surprised I'm hearing things I missed the first time around. Highly recommended for anyone with even a casual interest in the sciences.
