The tomb of China’s First Emperor, guarded by an underground army of terra-cotta warriors, has remained sealed for more than 2,000 years. Though it’s regarded as one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world, the Chinese government won’t allow anyone to open it. Why? That question is at the heart of a dilemma faced by former Justice Department operative Cotton Malone, whose life is shattered when he receives an anonymous note carrying an unfamiliar Web address.

A great combination of Chinese history, present Chinese political environment AND usual Cotton Malone/Casiopia Whitt action. Anyone up-to-date with current events knows that the China's need for oil outpaces even that of the US. This book's premise is current and thought-provoking while entertaining with the usual "will they make it" (although you know they will) tension. That said, this isn't really the book to start with in the Cotton Malone series. Steve Berry's earlier books set the stage so I'd recommend buying his first book and then following them sequentially. Highly entertaining and I would definitely recommend.

After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: his sister, the legendary supermodel Lula Landry, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

The story was involving, twisty, almost impossible to predict--all the things that make for a good who-done-it listening experience. However, the narrator was absolutely marvelous and elevated the listening experience to something that was impossible to put down. Every moment was believable and enjoyable and Mr. Glenister never got confused with the characterizations. Will definitely hope for a continuation of this series--there's WAY more material to delve. Feel we barely scratched the surface of possibilities.

Bill Black is a scary guy: a tall ex-con who rides to work on a Harley, and trails an air of violence wherever he goes. In Macon, Georgia, Bill has caught the eye of a wiry little drug dealer and his cunning girlfriend. They think Bill might be a useful ally. They don’t know that Bill is a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent named Will Trent. Or that he is fighting his own demons, undercover and cut off from the support of Sara Linton - the woman he loves, who he dares not tell he is putting himself at such risk.

Another great listen by Karin Slaughter. Will and Faith are integral to the story but other characters' (from earlier books) points of view are examined in depth, as well. Totally engaging performance and kept me guessing (which is hard to do). No spoilers here but it was terrific to see (that is, hear) Sara and Will progress in their relationship. Would definitely recommend.

Have been an Audible member since inception of the website and this is, by far, the most involving series of books I've listened to! I usually download and listen to books to keep me entertained while doing (not fun) projects around the house. I discovered the world of Calderon while in the midst of painting/re-staining 67 shutters and 32 doors this summer. The books were so great and the narrator so mesmirizing that I kept working each day just to have the excuse to keep listening! I even PAID for two books because I couldn't wait for my next set of credits! Now that I have finished all six, I have started again at the first and plan to listen to them all again. The narrator is gifted with so many different "voices" and characterizations you never get the characters confused (which, with longer books, is sometimes easy to do). I highly recommend.

Strong telepath Elle Drake has gone missing. Even her six magical sisters cannot find her. They all agree that she is alive and something terrible must have happened or she would have contacted them. Jackson Deveau, a deputy sheriff in the small village of Sea Haven, off the northern California coast, has known that Elle is destined for him. When she disappears, he gathers with his friends, Jonas Harrington and Ilya Prakenskii, and Elle's sisters to find her and bring her safely home.

    Overall

I've listened to many of Christine Feehan's books and several of this series. However, the step by step destruction of a character in the initial, "getting to know you" stages of the book was so difficult to listen to, I lost all attachment to the narrative and was unable to continue. Rarely do I stop listening to a book. I don't quite know what the author was thinking to write these terrible scenes without first letting the reader develop some rapport/relationship/history with the character. Maybe reading the book would be better because one could merely skip over the disturbing parts and get on with the rest of the story. Sorry I can't recommend it because the series is very enjoyable.
