I thought the overall performance was bad. The different voices she used were annoying, but especially her man voice.
I didn't really hear a good one.
Don't waste your time, money, credits...whatever...
No, the story was okay, the first book as better, but I found the narration annoying
Everything was tied up nicely, it was pretty sappy/cheesy, but a happy ending and that's important to me.
No, I've returned an audiobook after about 10 minutes of listening to her performance and didn't pay close enough attention to realize she was the narrator for this book as well and I feel like I was listening to a female version of William Shatner with her very dramatic reading of each and every sentence. And her pronunciation! Ugh! Alejandro is pronounced "Ollie-Jon"Dro," I mean, come on! It really bugged me, if you couldn't tell.
It seems like so many of the series that I've read/listened to have been really amazing and then for some reason, the style or flow of the last book
changes. I was really pleased that this didn't happen with this series. It was consistently awesome! I I love the characters and the things they do, the decisions they make, are ones I can imagine making myself. And they all love so deeply and put their family and friends first. It's refreshing. And it just ended so well!
In this series, it's always Clary & Jace that I love the most. They're just so good together. Aside from that, I love the sarcasm and wit I see in the characters, particularly Jace, but Simon has his funny moments too.
I haven't listened to any of the other audiobooks from this series, but I got so excited when I saw that Jason Dohring was doing part of the narration. I just thought, Logan Echolls (Veronica Mars) & Jace...two of my favorite sarcastic characters rolled into one! Really, I wasn't exactly disappointed in Jason's performance, it just wasn't exactly what I was hoping for. I found that I enjoyed the parts that Sophie Turner read more. I always find that narrators have a different inflection on things than I do and sometimes that's frustrating because I have a different interpretation on how something would have been said by a character. I wasn't really frustrated w/ either reader, but I didn't always think their interpretation/inflection in the reading was on the money.
Towards the end when they're trapped and a particular character makes a huge sacrifice. I can't say more, I don't want to spoil anything...
Read this book! But if you haven't read the other books in the series, start at the beginning, you won't be sorry...it's an amazing series!!!
I wasn't crazy about the narrator.
I thought it was pretty good. I'm intrigued, I'd definitely like to listen to the next one to unsolved some more mysteries.
The narrator kind of spoke weird. Almost like a lisp or something that frequently made her "s" sounds sound more like "sh." I guess it's nit-picky, but it bugged me. It just seems like if you're going to have someone narrate a book, you'd weed out things like that. I don't know...
Interest mostly. One of the reviews I read for this compared it to a girl version of Indiana Jones. I love that series and I can definitely see how that comparison can be made. There was adventure and mystery and a bit of romance, although honestly, I like a little more romance than there was in this book, but I think it might be leading there a little bit. The main point of the story isn't for romance though, it's the adventure/mystery angle.
It's pretty cheap, so I think it's worth the buy.
I had a hard time with the narrator. It's hard for me describe, her reading was kind is shaky & breathy, mostly breathy I guess & the voices she did for most characters all kind of sounded the same. I particularly couldn't stand her men's voices.
Eh, probably not. The book was pretty good, but when I finished I asked myself if I wanted to read the rest of the series & decided on no as my answer. If I didn't like it well enough to continue the series, I'm definitely not recommending it to anyone. There are just much better books to recommend.
Already described above. I downloaded the ebook & enjoyed it MUCH better that way.
Hmmm. I can't really thinking of any. There wasn't one that I really thought, "Man, I really could have done without that scene!" I think mostly, I wish sex scenes in books like these were't so graphic.
Yes. I read the Mayfair Moon books which is why I decided to give this one a try. This was soooo different. I guess Mayfair Moon is more of a YA series, where this is definitely adult.
I found a lot in the story disturbing. I know things like prostitution rings and drug lords and all of that exists and I hate to think of the awful things that happen to people who are simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I don't like to read about it. It was all just too specific and gruesome for me.
Oh my gosh. The man reading for Victor? Terrible! I can't believe how much I hated the way he read his part. For one thing, Victor is supposed to be youngish. I'm thinking late 20s, early 30s, something like that. The guy reading his part sounds way too old and I just didn't like him as a narrator anyway. The woman narrating was fine. She's the same one that did the other books by JA Redmerski and while I didn't think she was amazing, she wasn't bad.
The very graphic sex scenes. I can handle the violence as lot better than the sex. Ugh!
I was just overall disappointed in this one. I'll be skipping the sequel.
Not really. I didn't like the narration, I know she was supposed to come across as dry, but I found her almost monotone. Her southern accent for other characters was actually pretty good, but the reading of the majority of the book and the main characters voice was just boring for me.
Possibly, I think I would have liked this book better if I'd read it instead of listened to it, but it still wasn't a good enough book to make me want to invest in the rest of the series. Maybe if I can find it at the library or something, but I'm not spending money on it.
She was just too monotone for me.
I'm pretty sure it does have a follow-up, but I won't be checking it out.
Probably not, I found this story very flat, it just didn't pull me in.
His voice was really annoying to me. A little too slow, but not quite slow enough be able to listen at a higher speed.
Don't waste your time.
No, it's like listening to porn and totally grossed me out.
I listened to the first audiobook in this series and downloaded this one before I was even finished with it. She writes very depraved, graphic sex scenes, over and over and over in her books. I got through the first one, mainly because I really enjoyed Taryn, but after getting part way through this one, I just can't take any more of these sex scenes. As much as I want to know the rest of the story, I'm returning. It's just disgusting. I'm not a prude, I've read/listened to many other books with sexual scenes (not that I'm proud of that), and I wish most of them were skimmed over or skipped too, but this author takes sexual scenes to a whole new level with all of the domination and lot of regular, oral, and anal (blech!) sex. I just can't in good conscience recommend this book.
Really, really good
No. It'd basically be porn.
Let me just say, I finished this, despite the incredibly gross and graphic sex in this book. I was pulled in enough by the story being told that I kind of just endured the sex, but seriously? As much as I enjoyed Taryn and her awesome smart alecky, sarcastic comments and her feistiness, and the hotness that is Trey, 'm going to return this book. There's no way I can hear all of that sex again, and it's sex in any possible form. It really was pornographic. If this kind of thing doesn't bother you, you'll love the story, I did, but if you, like me, think that sex should stay between the couple and behind closed doors, AVOID this book, you won't like it. I'm sad to have to give it such a mixed review. :(
Humor. I seriously loved all of the crazy comments, particularly from Taryn and Dominique. Soooo funny!
