Private Investigator Tony Caruso lives out of his rolling office, an old Ford pickup truck, with his German-trained bomb-sniffing dog, Panzer, a Giant Schnauzer. Tony retired after 20 years in the Navy as an aviation ordnance man, but this training might not be enough when he is hired by an old friend to look into a murder suicide in Bend, Oregon, a resort in the high desert east of the Cascades. Was it a murder suicide as the local sheriff thinks? Or has this idyllic community been ripped apart?

What disappointed you about Boom Town?

Terrible reader. The actual narration was "ok" but when character voices were done, the worse I've ever heard. It spoils the story and I'll never buy another Audible book using Terry Ross.

Also, While the story line was interesting, there were too many Unfunny but trying to be cute sexual comments--sounded childish and took away from the ability to take the book seriously.

What could Trevor Scott have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Besides get a better reader, there were too many Unfunny but trying to be cute sexual comments--sounded childish and took away from the ability to take the book seriously.

What didn’t you like about Terry Rose’s performance?

It was terrible!! Bad character voices--I'll never get another where Terry Rose is the Narrator.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger in that I paid for the book and felt compelled to finish it, but then I was driving Interstate 5 and little alternatives.

    Any additional comments?

I don't usually trash a book, but reading a BAD job.

To save himself and the woman he loves, he must play by the rules of a god-like Game Master with an obsession for unearthing the past. But sometimes the past is buried for a reason.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

It's either the reader or the recording or both--I tend to think it's the reader however. It's hard to listen to the story for any length of time as the

Do you think Scavenger needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, but that's based on the narrator of this one.

    Any additional comments?

I put off making this review since I really don't like to say anything bad about people--least in a way it could affect their livelihood or to embarrass them, but after trying to listen to yet another short session of Patrick Lawlor, I decided I needed to vent my frustration.

As Alex and his girlfriend, Brianna Stone, become entangled in the deadly Nigerian underworld of Washington D.C., what they discover is shocking: a stunningly organized gang of lethal teenagers headed by a powerful, diabolical man--the African warlord known as the Tiger.

The story line was unbelievable, the manufactured drama of music and sound affects distracting and annoying and too preachy. I'm sorry, but I've listened to all of his books up until now and Cross Country has made me leery of buying any more.

A handful of people. From different backgrounds, living in different towns and cities across America, they had nothing in common - except fear. Deep in the heart of a sprawling desert, a dark memory called out to them, drawing them to the Tranquility Motel - where the terrifying truth was waiting.

I'm a fan of Dean Koontz so half way through this I had to go back and check to see if possibly it had been ghosted by another author. If you were looking for an uplifting, spiritual dog book, this might be ok, but it's title should be something akin to "Lassie Come Home" and not listed as a thriller or mystery. It was too preachy and simply so unbelievable to be distracting. Also, a bad reading--the reader did not handle the male characters at all well to the point of distraction. I would have quick half-way through, but against my nature and I was curious, but didn't enjoy the book at all.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Got 40 hours to kill? You’ll find the time when you start listening to Lee’s take on Follett’s epic – and widely celebrated – novel of 12th-century England. The Pillars of the Earth tells the story of Philip, prior of Kingsbridge, a devout and resourceful monk driven to build the greatest Gothic cathedral the world has known...of Tom, the mason who becomes his architect - a man divided in his soul...and of the beautiful, elusive Lady Aliena, haunted by a secret shame....

Joseph says: "Good historical setting, but loose story."
