"Too much romance"
I thought I was downloading a mystery not something with sex scenes, christian guilt by a 29 year old losing his virginity with angst over abortion to where the murder seems secondary to the emotions of the primary characters. If I had wanted emotional breakdowns and inability to commit to romantic relationships I'd have bought a romance.
"More romance than mystery"
In the first hour 85% of it is about the emotional issues of a narcissistic thoughts of a woman worried about her love life. Seriously, this is a supposed to be a female cop, so insecure and and more time is spent on her "needs" from a fellow cop in her love life than anything to do with the crime. The author does have a good phrase of turn and description but that's the best thing I can say about it. I suspect if you like romances you might find it interesting but even putting it on 2x I simply couldn't finish it. The best thing about it is that the narrator (at normal speed) has good inflection and reading skills. Pity she didn't have anything worth listen to read.
"well written but not really a mystery"
When I buy a mystery I expect the mystery to be the focus of the story with well developed characters. Here the characters were well developed and flowed well but the characters, including Tammy Wynette and other country western female singers overwhelm the actual murders. I learned far more than I ever wanted to know about the life of Tammy and at least 80% of the book had absolutely nothing to do with the death of either victim. The narrators did a very good job and it was pleasant to listen to but really more of a "finding who I am and how I came to be here" book than a mystery. I would say more but I don't want to give away the plot to someone who may read it.
If you are more into romance or family saga you will appreciate this book. I prefer the actual crime and who did it to be the primary focus of a mystery. Plus there was an element of the romance genre aka silly woman - pregnant at that, putting herself in situations where injury even death could occur - aka confronting the killer after she knew who did it while in the last month of her pregnancy.
"More romance than mystery"
Too much why do I let men take advantage of me and self analysis of romantic issues to the extent that the murder is almost an after thought. The guys who take advantage, or try to take advantage all die or get their comeuppance while three couples end up in love with "the one" after earlier heartbreak in two of the three - the other is teenage first love. Sorry but this to my mind should be in the romance not mystery category. I'd expected better from this author.
"Flat and unbelievable"
I
Clinical sounding on the sex scenes.
Plot was totally unbelievable with arrests without probably cause,
"Pleasant listen but not a mystery"
I enjoyed listening to this audio book but would not by any streching of the plot call it a mystery. It is a nice small town story that I didn't find overly preachy given that the description included "lovable rector". The narrator is an excellent fit for the main character and the other voices he uses.
"More Christian than I expected"
Having been a reader of Father Brown and other clerical mysteries I was unprepared for the emphasis on religion more than the mystery. Now that I am aware of the buzz words used in the description I will know to avoid anything associated with the publications listed.
"Definitely Deceptive Description"
This is the third time in the last month that I have purchased a book only to discover that the book is about prophisizing Christianity, not the mystery that the description led me to believe. As somone who is adamently opposed to evangelical Christianity I was extremely offended by this book.
I am very disppointed that the description failed to mention that the books is preaching to convert the protagonist to Christianity, discussions between evangelical Christians and other conversations with God including those of the protagonist's dead wife.
I sincerely hope that Audible will add to the description of this and other "Christian" based books that they are evangelical so that those who want that sort of book know and those of us that don't won't feel tricked when listened.
"More Evangelical than Mystery"
This is one of the rare books that I did not finish because I could not stand to listen to any more evangelizing Christ. Too bad because what I could hear of the plot indicated it would have been a good book but there is too much preaching in it for my taste.
"fun"
The plot was good, the actors worth listening to if you like 40s music there's some good music there as well.
