In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts? In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, one man sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone who has an agenda, that doesn't care about good fiction, but only that it speaks to their ideals.

What could Ayn Rand have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    Have believable characters.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger at how much time I wasted on reading it and how terrible the characters were.

While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.

What did you love best about Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter?

How the author was able to narrate through the story in a way that actually made it all feel plausible and as though there were works out journals and letters. It was a unique and well told story that I had gone into reading the book with a lot of doubts as to if the writer would be able to pull it off. He did.

What did you like best about this story?

The way it was structured and told. That there wasn't a rush to say, here was Lincoln and he was a vampire hunter. The Author took his time with the story, teasing us enough in the beginning but then letting the characters build thoughout at a nice pace.

What about Scott Holst’s performance did you like?

That it didn't distract from the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just that I enjoyed it greatly and consider it now to be one of my favorite pieces of fiction.

Quentin Coldwater is brilliant but miserable. A senior in high school, he's still secretly preoccupied with a series of fantasy novels he read as a child, set in a magical land called Fillory. Imagine his surprise when he finds himself unexpectedly admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the craft of modern sorcery.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

    No!

Has The Magicians turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, but if I was new to the genre it would have. Tis book is missing a plot for 3/4 of it.

Have you listened to any of Mark Bramhall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No.

Do you think The Magicians needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The Folow up to this and the story therein if the only thing that makes this book bare able.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If it cut out all the needless sex and just told the great story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nick, but as I started with the Chronicles of Nick and now reading this...

Would you listen to another book narrated by Carrington MacDuffie?

    Maybe, she wasn't distracting.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Frustration

  • Snow Crash

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 3 mins)

Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

    A. Tuck says: "Classic Stephenson"
"Not as good as was lead to believe."

What did you like best about Snow Crash? What did you like least?

After hearing others say that this was the Author's best work, I was curious. I have read some of his other novels and loved them, but this one just had to many problems with the storyline and the timeline that I was constantly frustrated.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

    The Metaverse

Was Snow Crash worth the listening time?

Maybe. I found that it took me longer to read through this novel than Reamde partially because this novel couldn't hold my interest.
