"the narrator is overly emphatic"
From the very beginning and through out the Narrator over emphasizes every word. When emphasis is actually appropriate he shouts. I will not purchase another book read by this person.
I was, however, able to tolerate the reading and thus give it two stars.
"history with obvious political bias"
The narrator is overly emphatic and reports trivial facts with an attitude of indignant disapproval. Thus, when events which should be related with a more serious tone are read, the voice remains the same.
The book is informative and worth listening too. There is no comic relief unless you want to chuckle at the author's obvious political agenda.
The Native Americans are portrayed in a sentimentalized glow. Chiefs who made comments to the press worthy of a ten year old child are repeated by the Narrator as though the words were profoundly wise. "White men build houses in the ground!"
"Narrator has a sing song childish voice"
The Narrator uses needless sarcasm to emphasize subtle points which spoils the tone of the writing. I enjoyed this book inspite of the narration. In the future I will avoid books read by this person. I give it two stars for "tolerable".
"worth the time"
This book held my attention. The reader's voice is pleasant and the content is interesting. There is very little if any comic relief, however, the story is not discouraging.
Not on my short list of all time favorites, but I am pleased I bought it.
"voice is shrill"
This person does not have the modulated pleasant voice I expect of someone who reads and audio book. The voice is shrill and overly emphatic in places.
"time well spent"
I read the hardcover book many years ago. This time I chose the abridged audio version. The voice is good, but not excellent. Dr. Graham gives an informative and enjoyable sermon or lesson on the subject of angels, both good and evil.
At the end he explains salvation. This book would be a suitable gift for someone who is seeking Jesus Christ and does not yet know Him.
"several books are required to learn enough spanish"
I have bought six audiobooks of this series. Each book contains five lessons. The disadvantage is that each book title starts with "Spanish I, Second Revised Edition: Lessons " Thus when viewing these six books on my computer or on my mp3 player ALL six books look alike! I have informed Customer Service of this. The teaching method is effective. I am age sixty and not highly motivated to learn spanish, but I am learning. I tried a tutor and using a CD and learned little. So I will continue to buy these audiobooks. Several books are required to learn enough spanish and unfortunately the books all look alike. This would be a disadvantage even on a bookshelf, but on an mp3 player it is a headache.
"better than I expected"
The reader's voice is pleasant and the pace is comfortable. A few of the phrases seemed useless such as, "I have one peso" (about 7 cents in today's exchange). However, on the whole the format it good and the method works for me. I am considering buying the second book.
