    How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

    Mr. Kipps could have been edgier.


    What do you think the narrator could have done better?

    Mr. Kipps was a bit too soft.


    Did The Woman in Black inspire you to do anything?

    Get a dog - I fell in love with Spider.

    Would you consider the audio edition of Middlemarch to be better than the print version?

    I haven't read the print version


    Who was your favorite character and why?

    Mary Grant - steady & sensible. George Eliot's strength is how completely each character is drawn.


    Have you listened to any of Nadia May’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    She does a great job of giving each character in the book.


    Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    It is not an emotional book, but interesting plumbing the depths of the interior life.

    It's long but the characters draw one in to the stories of their lives.

    What did you like best about this story?

    The flow of familial ties from generation to generation - the sense of time and blood ties flowing like a river without beginning or end.


    Which scene was your favorite?

    The wake - recognizing Liam's child.


    If you could rename The Gathering, what would you call it?

    Perfect title.


    Any additional comments?

    It appears some listeners are put off by the darkness of the book. As a survivor of family suicide I can say the book is spot on about the aftermath of suicide. It is dark, but charmingly Irish, and relieved by the dark humor so essential to surviving family tragedies. The narrator is a gifted actress and made the story authentic and more enjoyable.
