I was lost in the first 4 hours of this book, and almost stopped reading it. I am 8 hours into it now and give it a 4.5. Lots of characters to try to remember, but I am hooked into the story now. It would be nice if it came with a text file of the players. To me, it is much better that the last book. I will update when I get to the end.
This is the second book that I have read from the author (Sweepers was the first). It kept my interest all the way through. This book surprised me. I read so many books that a month later I often have forgotten what they are about. I don't think this will be the case with this one. My only criticism is with the reader, Mr Hill. He reads sooo slowly that it can put you to sleep (he reads many of the Jack Reacher books). If you have a player that can do 1.5 speed, it will bring him up to a normal pace. I read this at normal speed and even Mr Hill could not make it boring.
Sorry, gave up about halfway through. I was not in the mood for a depressing documentary with fictional characters.
I was looking forward to this book as I have loved other books by him, but the narration was terrible. He is one of those narrators who varies his speech from 2 decibels to 90 decibels in the same sentence. So if you want to hear everything, you have to have the volume cranked way up. Then you get blasted out by the loud volume seconds later. I gave up after 10 minutes.
I am not even sure why I loved this book. I am halfway through the sequel and love it just as much. I just love the word sequel (read the book and you will get this).
I really enjoyed the first 2 books of this series. Book 3 really started to drag, and this book in painfully boring. Nothing happens. An hour at a time of useless details followed by 3 minutes of action. Dick Hill's reading is always way slower than it should be. His slow reading combined with the minutiae laden dialogue makes this a book too painful to finish.
This series started so well. It is sad to see this book and the last one where nothing at all happens. Refund please!
Why was this book published? I rarely walk away from a book after investing several hours, but I have no interest whatsoever in finishing it. I think I will go back and read some of his older books to remember why he is one of my favorite authors
I don't get all the hype about this book. I gave up halfway through. It just rambles on and on and on. Bored me to tears
Though his books are hit and miss these days, I will usually give them a try.
It was just OK. Nothing special, but maybe a good book for a long drive.
Lately, I have to read Clancy books twice to be able to follow it. This book had fewer characters to try to follow.
While this book didn't have the magic of his earlier books, it was still an interesting book.
