Listening to audiobooks is a guilty pleasure. I travel a lot so listen to about four per monthly. Biographies are a favorite.

Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life - steady boyfriend, close family - who has never been farther afield than her tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex-Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life - big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel - and now he's pretty sure he cannot live the way he is. Will is acerbic, moody, bossy - but Lou refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected.

What made the experience of listening to Me Before You the most enjoyable?

Unique story. It's been a long time since an audio book choked me up (last time was The Fault in Our Stars)

Who was your favorite character and why?

Protagonist. I found myself rooting for her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes - I finished this one quickly and found myself looking forward to the time I could plug it back in.

    Any additional comments?

As much as my sentimental self was rooting for the sappy ending, this ending was perfect.

Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

If you could sum up The Racketeer in three words, what would they be?

    Fun, compelling, intriguing

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes - so glad it didn't go down the road I thought (off the rails.)

    Any additional comments?

Great protagonist. Rooted for him the entire time. One of John Grisham's best IMHO.

In this breathtaking and beautiful novel, the #1 New York Times best-selling author Anna Quindlen creates an unforgettable portrait of a mother, a father, a family, and the explosive, violent consequences of what seem like inconsequential actions.

Where does Every Last One rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Extremely high

What other book might you compare Every Last One to and why?

Love Anna Quinlan. Another favorite is Elizabeth Berg. Both tackle tough emotional subjects without over sentimentality and are able to focus on the faith and strength of the human spirit.

Have you listened to any of Hope Davis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Hope Davis is an excellent reader.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Wow - so many. I think when I realized what happened to her family. I thought it was revealed in a particularly compelling way.

The events that followed changed her life forever. Twelve years later, the woman now known as Abigail Lowery lives alone on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance programmer, she works at home designing sophisticated security systems.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'm not a huge Nora Roberts fan as much of her stuff blends together for me. This was an interesting story. Glad it didn't go down the road I thought it might.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It really did and like I said, glad it went down a different road than the one I expected.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I really felt I could "see" her home nestled in the woods. Tough to say one scene. I liked the protagonist, Abigail.

  • The Shell Seekers

    • ABRIDGED (3 hrs)

    • Narrated By Lynn Redgrave

Set in London and Cornwall from World War II to present, The Shell Seekers tells the story of the Keeling family, and of the passions and heartbreak that have held them together for three generations. The family centers around Penelope, and it is her love, courage, and sense of values that determine the course of all their lives.

Deftly shifting back and forth in time, each chapter centers on one of the principal players in the family's history. The unifying thread is an oil painting entitled "The Shell Seekers".

Would you consider the audio edition of The Shell Seekers to be better than the print version?

    No

What other book might you compare The Shell Seekers to and why?

    Mauve Binchey's - similar style

Did Lynn Redgrave do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

Wish you had the unabridged version of this as it's one of my favorites. The abridged doesn't do it justice.
