"Great story, but needs a finish."
The story was good. The only cons are: The story is told in a series of conversations. And the ending is abrupt and unfinished. Other than that I liked it. I read the first one also. And I'll read the next.
"As good as it could be."
Like many other reviewers, I have been reading this series since the '90's. I love books 1-4. Like books 5-7. Hate books 8-10. Finally, with book 11, I started to think we would get back to the original genius of the books. Where each book was an epic story, set within the framework of an epic series.
After Sanderson took over at Jordan's death, I felt he did a good job. But, the storyline had been spread so thin, I could not help but wonder how he would tie it all up. I think Sanderson did as good as could be done. There are SO MANY loose ends. Some were bound to be left.
As for this book? There is a lot of battle. And Mat is laid on a bit heavy. But other than that, I thought it was great. The ending especially, was brilliant. Well worth the listen.
"Great story, get a new narrator."
I'm kind of a Narrator snob; so take my opinion for what its worth. But they need to find someone else. The story is great though. Worth it even with this narrator.
"If you like Twilight...."
...This is your grown up version. Two opposite, held apart by societal rules. Danger and sexual attraction to create tension. Its a twist on Romeo and Juliet--just as twilight was. The writing is in 1st person narration, just as twilight was; so that emphasizes the similarities. It is an R rated version though.
"Good Quick Read"
Lewis is always good for a quick read. I like the narrator. But mostly I gave it 5 starts for the philosophy. It gets you thinking.
"Good Rewind to my youth."
I felt like a kid again reading this. It was one of my favorites as a child. I was surprised at how simplistic it seemed to me now. The Narrator did well.
"Another Great Pratchett"
I put off reading this, since I had only read his Discworld stuff. But I was not disappointed. Pratchett did great.
"Love Doyle, Love Cumming."
Great Pairing of Author and Narrator. My only complaint is that I wish it were longer!
"What you expect."
The story is what you expect from Tolkien. Well written with some poetry added in. The narrator was pretty good.
