"Enjoyed the book but not the narrators"
This was an enjoyable, well-written story by the author, but the narration was difficult to listen to. The voices did not seem to fit the characters in the story and I felt did not do it justice. I'm glad the story was well written and interesting, right up until the end or I would have given up because of narration that I thought was not a good fit. I'm glad to see that the next book in the series has different narrators. I really do want to hear what happens to some of the other people in New Bern, CT. It sounds like the kind of place that I wouldn't mind living in!
"Humble yourself and listen"
"Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18:4
Anyone who claims to be a Christian will believe what this young child has seen. Those who are not will find all kinds of reasons to bash the book. I have to admit that I let these people influence me with their reviews and passed the book by when I first heard of it. Thankfully, I have a good friend that encouraged me to read it and I am so glad that she did. It gives one a great deal to ponder on. Thanks so much to the Burpo family for sharing this beautiful story with so many of us!
"Very well done"
This was a very deep theological story, giving the listening much to consider. The beginning was difficult and I kind of wanted to stop listening. However, I'm glad that I continued because I would have missed a wonderful story. The narrator was awesome and really brought the story to life. At the end, I immediately returned to the part where Mac first encountered the Trinity and re-listened to the book again. And I don't think it will be the last time I return to it - there's a lot of good stuff there to ponder on.
"Intriguing and thought provoking story"
It never ceases to amaze me how an author can weave a story and make it all come together in the end. This book started out as three separate stories and seemed to be rather short and choppy. I wondered how in the world it would connect, but to my surprise it was a very interesting plot with a touch of science fiction (which I do not enjoy). However I had no trouble with it in this book and was eagerly awaiting the end to see how the characters would be changed. It really causes one to think about the very short "time zone" in our whisper of a lifetime and realize that we should not take one moment for granted.
"A different kind of love story"
Very glad that I chose to listen to this book. Narrator is awesome and turns the characters into real life people. The story itself is all about people, the good, the bad, the ugly and those who are beautiful in their hearts by the love they show to their "brothers". I can't say that I agree with the choice made by George in the end, but I can understand that it was love that moved him to make that choice. I would highly recommend this book, it will make you realize that the people in our lives are more important than the things in our lives.
"Great story for kindred spirits in quilting"
When I started to listen to this book it was a sad time for me personally and the story started out sad so I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed at first. But I have enjoyed all of the other books in this series by Marie Bostwick so I didn't give up. It turned out to be a much different story than I had anticipated and am not disappointed at the end. I am a quilter and I love stories that I can relate to like the ones by this author. Makes me feel like I could be one of the characters in the story!
"Story chosen because of narrator"
I chose this book because I have enjoyed the narrator so much in the series of "At Home in Mitford" books. The narrator was enjoyable as I had expected but I found the story to be a bit far-fetched and seemed like it was strung along too far. It was interesting enough, but I was ready for the ending. I probably wouldn't recommend it as highly as many others I have listened to.
"Soul searching story - don't miss it!"
This book was awesome. This was not your run of the mill story where everything turns out with what the reader expects. It was like the kind of experiences that meet us in real life - not always what we want, but what we are forced to face. And it was told in such a way that kept my interest and piqued my interest the more I listened. It made my think about my own life and what things I have that I don't always cherish. Not many books will bring tears to my eyes, but this one did at the end. This book definitely makes my top 10 list; I would highly recommend it. And as an added bonus the narrator was superb!
"One of the best Chiaverini Books"
This was one my favorite of the many Jennifer Chiaverini stories. She brings the characters to life and makes me feel what they feel and wish for what they wish for. The narration by Christina Moore, as always, is perfect and really compliments the story. I love how the "quilt" theme is somehow always entwined in every one of her stories. I love listening to them as I am working in my sewing room and creating my own works of art!
"The Best Things in Life are not Things"
Great message that we all need to be reminded of frequently. Cleverly written story and the narrator did a great job. I will probably listen to this one every few years just to keep me mindful of what is really important in this life. Take the time to listen - it's a short story, but a very important one.
"Just another Amish Story"
This story was rather predictable. Seemed like just another Amish story from a cookie cutter mold. And I was left hanging at the end of the book. I didn't feel like the story was done yet when the book ended.
