"Very good fantasy story"
I have read the story before and enjoyed it again the second time around, years later.
Van Dyck is a good narrator. Not great, but good. Nobody can compare to George Guidall and obviously this story needs a female narrator so the comparison is unjust. Just a bit over the top as far as theatricality at first, but perfectly fine after getting used to her style.
"More of the same"
If you like the earlier books, you will like this one a well. It is going to sound strange, given the horrendous things that happen to some characters, but the goody-goody-ness is a bit much. Everyone is too... good or too evil. The tone is annoying at times. I know Arvid is caught in between but even he is too good.
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy this series, but it is a not of the caliber of Brian Sanderson's Mistborn series. J.V. does a good job as narrator, too.
"Excellent narrator. Good story."
The story is vintage Grisham and I enjoyed listening to it. However, in the end, I felt it was short. I think Grisham could have done more with it. Probably unfair of me to say so as the story had plenty of characters and twists and turns. So, I am not sure why I am saying so. The narrator was not the cause of my minor dissatisfaction, he did his job well.
