The book was very interesting, but what an angry guy! His style is very New Yorker "in your face" and living in L.A. hasn't mellowed him any. Never knew so much went into the development of T.V. If you ever thought you had a great idea for a tv show, hear this book and you'll think twice.
Cute story with just enough twists and turn to make you keep reading. I liked the narrator and the silly yet wishful way of putting real life and fantasy in one book. Good, amusing read.
Maybe if I knew the series I would have liked it better. It was an ok story but you never get emotionally tied to Alex. I did appreciate the nod to Harry Dresden though. Nice touch.
Overly simple, and I found the narrator annoying. I couldn't stand it more than a few minutes. Grammar, tone, sentence structure made this a poor listen.
This book misses the punch and pace of "Dad is Fat" - which I loved. It needs to have more zingers, less rambles.
I'm not sure yet - probably a mystery.
Jim does his usual job of funny voices and keen observations, but the stories drag.
Maybe this was too broad of a topic for a 7+ hour book. I will listen to Jim Gaffigan again, but hope for a better result.
I started this book because I really like Alan Cumming as an actor. I just can't sit through how abusive his father was. Maybe it cuts too close to home. The sections about his current life are interesting and I'm so glad he survived.
No. The story makes this "woman" sound like a 12 year old girl. Ridiculous choices, no adult smarts, much less Secret Service smarts. Narration is totally flat.
I will continue reading books in this genre - just avoid Mike Wells.
The narrator kept the same tone regardless of what was happening. Working in the office had the same excitement as being chased by the mob.
My only reaction was to stop listening and find another book. I stuck with it for the first 4 hours, hoping it would improve. It didn't.
Don't waste your time or credit.
I like Barbara Rosenblat, but even in this book there are too many incidental people to keep all the voices distinct. I will probably try the next Diane Mott Davidson novel just to see if it improves.
Instead of wrapping it up, an entire second book gets jammed into the last few minutes. Strange and disappointing. There was lots that would have made a good stand-alone book.
I had problems distinguishing some of the voices. Too many side characters.
No. Not enough action for a movie. There could be more teen issues with Arch, girlfriend action from Julian, wacky and stuff from Marla and detective sleuthing from Tom, but this book is not eventful enough for a movie. Some of the earlier ones could be good.
Disappointed with this one, but won't give up on the series.
I love that the book is set in Australia, so seasons are opposite. And the characters are just quirky enough to be fun, not totally off the wall.
This book is just lots of fun. Some social commentary, but the live and let live attitude carries through. Entertaining. The narrator has the right tone for the book.
I liked the travel information and descriptions of places around the world. I didn't like the uneven behavior of the lead character, Jill. For someone who supposedly pulled her life out of the devastation and desertion of her husband, she seems pretty darn neurotic.
Maybe. It was OK - I actually listened through to the end.
Crisp, clear, personable.
It inspired me to look into women's travel clubs.
It's not a bad story, just not very good. The author stops short of commitment to any one emotion - mad, sobbing, hopeful, neurotic, desperate, happy, professional, scramble headed.
Complex, twisted, sad
Yes, I'll continue with the series, but this book is too graphic with the torture for me. I didn't like how the "gore" took away from the story.
Susan Ericksen is a great narrator. On target with the voices and the pace.
My only thoughts were that the book highlights the crime in too much detail - it takes away from the characters and the overall story.
Not my favorite "In Death" book, but I will continue the series.
