I have a rather eclectic love of books. I know what I like and I tend not to be a severe critic. If I enjoyed it, it gets 4 or 5 stars.

I love reading about this man and this was a very interesting book. It was not my favorite of those written, but it was definately worthwhile. I found it to drag in some parts, but then it would pick up again and move quickly.

In Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, Raoul Duke (Thompson) and his attorney Dr. Gonzo (inspired by a friend of Thompson) are quickly diverted to search for the American dream. Their quest is fueled by nearly every drug imaginable and quickly becomes a surreal experience that blurs the line between reality and fantasy. But there is more to this hilarious tale than reckless behavior, for underneath the hallucinogenic facade is a stinging criticism of American greed and consumerism.

This book is just strange. Maybe it is because I have never enjoyed the drug culture, but I just could not finish it.

Listen as Frank tells in his own inimitable voice his story of how at the age of 19 he traveled from Limerick to New York in pursuit of the American dream. Despite the abundance of unsolicited advice he gets to "join the cops" and "stick to his own kind", Frank knows that he should educate himself and somehow rise above his circumstances.

This book is a continuation of Angela's Ashes and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was not as heartbreaking as Angela's Ashes was, probably because we are no longer dealing with a child, but with a grown man. I think it is interesting that during Frank McCourt's years, a person's social status could change so much - something I am not sure is possible in this day and age. It leaves me wondering if the world will be missing out on a lot of Frank McCourts in the future because they will not have the same opportunties. That is a sad prospect.

One cold night, in a most unlikely corner of Chicago, two teens—both named Will Grayson—are about to cross paths. As their worlds collide and intertwine, the Will Graysons find their lives going in new and unexpected directions, building toward romantic turns-of-heart and the epic production of history’s most fabulous high school musical.

I think I picked this book up on the $4.95 special list. I don't regret listening to it, but it is full of teenage drama that can get tiring after a while. I generally tend to like Adolescent Literature, but this one was not of high quality. I have a feeling that teenagers might enjoy the book a whole lot more. The characters are endearing, and the book is funny at times, albeit not very realistic.

Why we think it’s a great listen: There’s no gentle way to put this – Frank McCourt’s performance of Angela’s Ashes is just better than the Pulitzer Prize-winning book. Frank McCourt shares his sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking story of growing up poor, Irish, and Catholic in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes.

When I first started listening to this book, I really didn't like it. I had a very hard time following the accent of the narrator. I went to return it and then reread all the reviews, realizing that I needed to give it more time. Like watching a Shakespeare play, the language grows on you and you can follow it easier as you get used to it.

I had a range of emotions while reading this book. I have ancestors who immigrated from Ireland to America and I had to rethink everything I thought I knew about them. I had assumed they came from the vibrant green and cozy Ireland where everyone was spectacularly nice and neighborly. After reading Frank McCourt's autobiography, I realize that my thinking was probably inaccurate. I never realized how stern the Irish were and how miserable and poor so many were. I had heard the stories of the drinking but assumed it was a stereotype; I never realized the damage it did to families. I also didn't understand the impact of the Catholic church on the Irish people and how the families seemed to be motivated by guilt from the church.

This book can be amusing at times, but for the most part it is very serious and very sobering. It was a learning experience for me and I highly recommend that everyone who is interested in the roots of the people who helped build America, read this book.

The story line is a bit confusing at first because of the introduction of so many characters, but it doesn't take long to catch on and straighten them all out in your head. The book has several different subplots going on at once - which keeps things moving. I am sensing there will be a sequel and I will definitely buy it.

I had a hard time when I started the first book. I didn't think I could go on. I pushed myself through the first few chapters and then I really got into it. This is one of those series where you become close to the characters and by the time the series is over you feel like you are letting go of your best friends. I enjoyed it and I recommend these books - once you get through the first few chapters of the first book, you will like it.

After the first few chapters I thought I was done. I didn't like it at all. But, because of all the positive reviews and the fact that I like her other work, I decided to try a couple of more chapters. I really got into it and the story turned out to be really good. I think what I didn't like about the book was the narrator...there was something about the way she was reading that bothered me. I bought the next book today - so, it did eventually draw me in - I still am not crazy about the narrator though.

I never had any interest in quilting - ever! I was looking for a series with a good set of characters to replace those I had already finished and this author certainly filled that gap. The characters are endearing and when you finish the book you feel like you lost your best friends - these are the best kinds of book!!! Now, I want to learn to quilt!
